I might be a bit biased since I happen to love my collarbone (weird, I know, but it's definitely one of my best features) but I sincerely believe that everyone should try an off-the-shoulder style at least once. It's a fun way to show some skin without a plunging neckline or a daringly high hemline, and it's a shape that is too often underutilized.
There's an off-the-shoulder dress for every body shape and sensibility, too. If you want to show off your curves, a body-hugging Cushnie et Oches dress will do the trick nicely. If you'd rather wear a looser-fitting, flowy dress, Free People is your go-to destination. And if you are a little more conscious of your shoulders and arms than I am, opt for a ruffle detail (this Rebecca Minkoff dress works perfectly).
A fitted off-the-shoulder dress is perfect for a night out on the town or a glam cocktail party, but a more flowy version is just the look for a garden party, brunch, or a day of running errands.
As per usual, it's all about how you style it. Dress down a fancy silk dress with menswear-inspired loafers like Aimee Song does here, or add fun jewelry and heels to what would otherwise be a more casual dress.

The best part? You probably already have a slip dress lurking in your closet. Just throw on a pair of sexy heels and some dainty jewelry (or a choker and vampy lipstick if you want to go full-on 90s). If the weather is not on your side, slip on some tights and throw an oversized sweater or coat over your shoulders—perhaps a leopard print coat for ultimate sass.
No matter how you style your slip dress, it's a sure-fire way to make a statement as the ball drops.

I can't believe I'm saying this but the holiday season is just around the corner. Halloween is this Friday and then, while you're still nursing your hangovers (or, you know, stomachaches from all the candy) on Saturday morning you'll stumble into Starbucks only to be greeted with peppermint and yuletide spirits (But let's be honest, I cannot wait for the peppermint mocha to make it's long-awaited return).
Once you get used to the idea that as of November 1st, the holiday season has begun, you'll realize with horror: Shit. This means I need a holiday party dress! Because between family gatherings, office luncheons, and Christmastime galas (what? A girl can dream!) you're gonna need a new sparkly dress or two. And last year's tired version will simply NOT suffice! So what style dress should you be looking for?
How about a maxi (or midi) dress with a sheer organza skirt? These dresses have been everywhere lately, from the runways of Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino to the stars of street style.
Semi-see-through organza skirts are fun and festive for the season, and it's a nice way to show some leg while still covering up and staying warm(ish).

SHOP ORGANZA SKIRTS AND DRESSES:
So while patrolling modcloth I came across a most beautiful dress that I could not resist writing about. As someone who is constantly looking for new dresses (alright, let's face it, I'm always looking for new everything) I just about swooned when I saw this beauty.
Not only is it a flattering style that could be worn in a number of occasions, but this dress gets bonus points for being school spirited! The cardinal-and-gold color combination is hard to find outside of Harry Potter costumes -hence the reason I have my own Gryfindor scarf for football games- or the USC bookstore, and the outfits are usually limited to T-shirts and sweatshirts. I love that this dress is a fashionable way to show off my collegiate colors!
For the sake of school spirit, I might have to ship this baby to the dorm. :)
Summer equals endless amounts of free time, and I plan to use each and every minute of the approximately 68 days I have left until move-in day wisely. As nice as vegging out is for a day or two, I get upset if I go too long without productivity. And my, what a productive first full week of summer it has been!
Above, the unfinished bodice to my newest project, the Sally dress. I found this fabric a while back in LA and I love the nautical stripes with flamingo pink. The original plan for this dress was to have a double-breasted design -you might notice in the above picture that one side of the bodice actually overlaps the other- but the row of buttons down the middle looked so perfect that I decided to go in that direction. Funny how things change from illustration to pattern to sewn piece.
Below, the finished result. Gathered skirt with a one-inch band at the bottom to give the skirt some more weight. I went with three buttons -even numbers are always nice! Now all I need to do is sew on the zipper and I'll have a brand new summer frock!

The dress I made and wore to my graduation party last Saturday. Ignore the iffy cell-phone quality and my dog, Toby, checkin' out my footwear in the background.
On a day like today you just don't question the fact that it is already March 9th and that spring is soon upon us. It's just so darn nice! Enjoying all this 70 degree weather has got me yearning for summer -because it feels like summer, except for that whole school thing- and naturally I'm looking for the perfect summer dress that I can wear while walking down to the beach over Spring Break. This Missoni dress has all the makings of a perfect beach dress: it's colorful, it's lightweight, and it's a freakin' Missoni! Pair with a wide-brim hat, Olsen-worthy shades, and a stellar bikini, and you're good to go!

There are so many things that I love about this dress. The baggy shape with nipped-in waist is extremely flattering for any girl. And then there's the print; spring is full of denim and the laid back luxe I've previously mentioned. But how tedious would it be to have a heavy patchwork dress made of all different denim scraps? Fear not! Emma Cook has thought of all these questions and instead the dress is a nice silk-cotton blend that only appears to be made of denim but has all the lightness of a perfect summer dress, making it a wonderful spring dress.
