It's nearing the end of New York Fashion Week and the trends are starting to emerge. Among them, there seems to be an affinity for androgynous dressing and oversized proportions à la Annie Hall, the classic Woody Allen film starring Diane Keaton as the titular character.
To tell you the truth, I haven't actually seen Annie Hall (it's on my Netflix queue, though!) but I think that's a testament to how iconic Keaton's character is that I can recognize the style of the character in the runway shows of Thakoon and DKNY.
What's trending at NYFW? Loose-fitted suits of tweed and pinstripe, larger-than-life proportions, wide-leg culottes, and round hats, to name a few of the trends that would have delighted Annie. While I haven't seen a straight-up tie and sweater vest outfit combination that blatantly references the film's fashionable lead, there's no doubt that the style of Annie Hall echoes throughout fashion week.
And what does that mean, really, for fall trends? The fall 2015 girl is loose and casual, less feminine and prim than her spring version, but by no means is she going to not dress sharply. She's more muted, embracing neutrals and earthy tones, and she's more interested in unique tailoring than she is in showing off her skin or her curves. She means business, but she's not afraid to have fun.

Band of Outsiders is a staple amongst all the cool girls, so wouldn't it make sense that the resort lookbook resembled the style of the classic cool lady, Holly Golightly of Breakfast at Tiffany's fame?
Think of the collection as Holly Golightly with an iPhone - headscarves, black silk jumpsuits, sleek trenchcoats perfect for hunting down lost cats, and so on. Holly has plenty of quirk to her, and her classic pieces with playful touches go perfectly with the Band of Outsiders aesthetic.

Emma Stone is hard not to like, and when she is playing the stylish, intelligent, grounded girlfriend to real life beau Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spiderman, it's hard not to fall in love with her on-screen persona Gwen Stacy either.
I've already dedicated a post to how much I adore Gwen's style when the first film came out two years ago. She is classically fashionable with a tinge of retro pop that is perfect for a comic book inspired world. Her signature style is preppy and stylish, and her black knee-high leather boots paired with textured tights add the perfect hint of sex appeal.
Gwen Stacy isn't afraid to add some color, so don't shy away from bright shades when looking to replicate her signature style. Gwen is also a bit of a perfectionist and loves some well-placed color coordination. Try to draw out an accent color from your clothing with a similarly-hued accessory.

While doing my hair for New Year's Eve (super cute disco-style curls - think Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 runway - that were immediately destroyed by a nasty fog that drenched the coastal area last night) I watched the absolute cutest Audrey Hepburn film, How to Steal a Million (1966).
The movie is light and fun, starring Audrey as a chic Parisian girl about town and daughter of a wealthy art forger. She crosses paths with a handsome burglar (who tries to steal one of her father's forged artworks) and romance and shenanigans ensue.
While not as whimsically whacky as Breakfast at Tiffany's or nostalgically romantic as Roman Holiday, it's a fun film and Hepburn's role as a French society girl is the perfect excuse for a lovely group of costumes by Audrey's favorite, Givenchy.

Catching Fire, the second installment in the beloved Hunger Games film trilogy, came out this weekend, and naturally I found myself in an 800-seat theatre for the midnight showing with ten other sorority sisters ready to watch the Girl on Fire tear it up in the arena once again.
And of course, I was also pumped up to see some crazy Capitol fashions.

One thing I admire about the Hunger Games is that it really understands the potential power of clothing and fashion. The books and movies alike place an unusual (but much appreciated) amount of emphasis on the ensembles the many characters don throughout the movie.
Extravagant makeup and bold colors distinguish the Capitol citizens from the people of the outlying Districts. The costumes given to the tributes before they enter the arena can clue them in on what type of climate they will be competing in. Even a tiny little accessory (in the form of a golden pin) can become the inspiration for an entire revolution.

The second film definitely kicks that notion into high gear, especially with District 12 Escort Effie Trinket's fabulously flamboyant wardrobe of Alexander McQueen frocks. And Katniss's interview/wedding dress is so beautiful you will cry.
And the rest of the movie is good too! Actually, it's amazing. No sophomore slump for this movie series, so definitely grab some popcorn and catch Catching Fire in theatres now!

Though I can't say I've ever read the Tolstoy masterpiece -outside of required readings, I'm lucky if I find enough time to manage browsing an entire magazine- my mother and I went to see the film adaptation of Anna Karenina tonight and I must say it was quite lovely! Keira Knightley's character may go down a road of self-destruction, but my does she look good doing it! Set in 1870s Imperial Russia, the film follows the dramas of Russia's upper class, all in marvelous fashion. You can understand why the communists had an ax to grind with the ruling classes- the sheer amount of excess of fabrics, jewels, and yes, furs would probably drive anyone crazy with jealousy after a while. Or you can just sit back, relax, and admire the fabulous costumes. Here are some of my favorites:
I know you've probably all heard about The Hunger Games by now, but seriously you guys, it is soooo good. I went at midnight last night and it was fabulous. I do suggest reading the books first but even if you are just a casual viewer you will be able to appreciate the compelling tale of dear Katniss.

Katniss herself is a true inspiration and is one of the strongest female characters I have seen in a long time. Critics of Twilight rejoice, we have found the anti-Bella!
