There is a true art to masterful layering, and it is an artform that never ceases to amaze me. A well-layered group of necklaces or a creative pairing of sheer top and lace bralette can transform a dull outfit into a glorious ensemble. Though layering can be challenging at times, the end result is always stunning, which is why I am constantly experimenting with new combinations and mixes.

I may reside in Los Angeles during the school year, but San Diego is and always will be home. It's a truly beautiful city and no matter how busy I get or how crazy life in LA is, I can always count on San Diego to give me peace and serenity in the form of glorious rays of sunshine and fabulous shopping.
If San Diego is my home, then Fashion Valley is my oasis. So many favorite memories of the gorgeous mall, so many great purchases made. It's because of Fashion Valley that I didn't realize indoor malls actually existed until middle school, and it was there that I cultivated my own personal style. In a sense I grew up there - I transitioned from Roxy-wearing elementary schooler to sassy Abercrombie middle schooler (oh, those were dark days) to full-fledged fashionista, all with the help of Fashion Valley. I really owe a lot to the place and whenever I make a trek home you know that I'll be stopping by.
So imagine my excitement when a representative of Curator PR (who oversees public relations for Fashion Valley) gave me the awesome news that Fashion Valley was introducing a few new stores this year (as if I needed more reasons to go!).

Among the new additions: Free People and AllSaints, both brands that you know I love! This will be the first standalone AllSaints store in San Diego or Orange Counties and you can be sure that it's going to look beautiful.
PINK of Victoria's Secret is also getting it's own standalone store, which will allow the preexisting Victoria's Secret to expand, and workout mavens beware, because lululemon is finally coming to Fashion Valley. Maybe if I get a pair of "wunder unders" I'll actually be motivated to work out? Who knows.
Anyways, I am totally stoked for all these new additions to my favorite hometown mall. AllSaints opened this past weekend and the rest of the stores are set to open within the year, so get your credit cards ready and I'll see you there!

Versace Fall 2013 Couture makes the midriff glam and the loose-knit sweater a work of art
Once upon a time, sweaters were created to keep people warm during cold winter months. Essentially some person way back when eyed the fluffy, wonderfully-insulated sheep and enviously tried to make him or herself just as warm and cozy as the sheep with its warm wool - and thus, the sweater was born. Or something like that.
But society has evolved a lot since the first days of wool-based clothing and clothing is no longer about just stayin' alive (currently listening to this and had to put it in there, it seemed just too fitting) but about self-expression and fashion! and all that. We have evolved and live luxurious lives compared to the lives of our forefathers, and now we wear sweaters that look cool, not ones that keep us warm.

You may not know this, but cropped tops are kind of a thing right now. Especially during the summer, nothing seems to be more popular right now than baring your midriff and flaunting your fabulous toned abs.
But summer is a fleeting season, destined to end quicker than we want it to, and soon fall will spread over the lands and cause the leaves to change colors and the temperature to drop and the crop-top hipster girls will have to fold away their belly-baring T-shirts and simply await the return of spring, right? WRONG!
For fall, the cropped top takes the form of the more seasonally-appropriate cropped sweater, so don't stop the ab-work yet. And the looser-knit the short sweater is, the better. Like, it should look like a kindergartener made it. Or a Mulleavy sister. And if it's hand-dyed and spun from golden fleece and costs over three-thousand dollars you win at life. Just don't yet your cat near it.

Well, my friend, luckily I live in Southern California where it never gets too unbearable. But I say suck it up. We have evolved to wear clothes out of style and how cool they look, not how comfortable or insulated we are, right? That's what heating systems are for. And it's not like you wear this look when its below freezing temperature and snowing. But if you are yearning for a crop top to sport during winter, this is your chance.

On Sunday I joined my friend on an impromptu trip to Disneyland, one of my favorite places to go. It was so lovely - beautiful weather and no big crowds - so it made for a lovely weekend excursion.
Also, can I just say how much I love that dress. It's hot pink, it's so comfortable, and I found it for a great price at Nordstrom Rack! It's always exciting to find a great dress for a great deal!

For someone who vows to never dye her hair and thus change it from its natural blonde state, I sure do love colored hair. There are times when I wish I had been born with boring, mousey-hued hair; if only so I could wake up one day and decide to dye my hair pink if I so desired. Don't get me wrong, I love my gorgeous flaxen tresses (if I may toot my own horn) but sometimes I yearn for a little excitement.
When the whole dip-dye trend set in I was getting really antsy. Finally, something where I could dye part of my hair and then just cut it off when I was over it. But I was still scared to do that!
And finally, I found the solution: hair chalk. My friend had told me about the magical invention, a way to very temporarily (it washes out in the shower) color strands of hair. Perfect for going out and concerts (above, I added blue and red streaks for the WALK THE MOON concert on campus) hair chalk provided me the opportunity to color my hair without the risk of any permanent hair damage or loss of natural color!

At Urban Outfitters, a rainbow palette is available for those of you who love all the colors of the rainbow, or singular color that lasts longer.
This video has some good tips on how to chalk your hair. She uses regular art store soft pastels (not oil) so if you already have those you don't even need to go to the store!
