Lazy Sunday

June 8, 2014

Sometimes, you just have to have a lazy Sunday, where you can lounge in your pajamas until noon, reading a great summer book while sipping on an iced latte from Urth Caffe. #livingthedream

The perfect recipe for a lazy Sunday morning:

Fashion & Football: Match Made in Heaven?

January 9, 2014

Something strange happens when you go to a big school like USC: you fall in love with football. Between the incredible on-campus tailgates, the triumphant trumpeting of the marching band, and the excitement of the games themselves, you can't help but to raise your pom-poms (and your "V for Victory") with everyone else and cheer for your school team.

Despite my endeavours to create as many chic outfits featuring a cardinal & gold color combination for games, even I must admit that football is not the most stylish of sports. It's rough and rugged, and the players are not overly involved with their appearances like chicer athletes - tennis stars and polo players, for example - are. But perhaps it's that ruggedness that has recently been appealing to the fashion crowd.

Rounded shoulders, jersey numbers, and letterman jackets are huge trends right now. Bloomingdale's flagship store in New York City (where the Super Bowl will be held) is going to display 48 designer football helmets in their windows - they'll be up for auction to benefit the NFL Foundation. Designers involved in the collaboration include Dannijo, Clover Canyon, and Rag & Bone. The helmets will be unveiled on January 15.

Wear the Holidays, Designer Style

December 5, 2013

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Olympia Le-Tan Clutch | Chinti and Parker Reindeer Sweater | Tibi Reindeer  Sweater | Charlotte Olympia Gingerbread Purse | Charlotte Olympia Jingle Bell Pumps | Markus Lupfer Sweater

Last year I believe I wrote a piece about the increasing trendiness of the "Ugly Christmas Sweater" and the plethora of faux-vintage holiday-themed knits available in the "Urban Renewal" section at Urban Outfitters.

This year, even the trendiest of high-end designers have hopped on the bandwagon (pulled by reindeer, of course) and have dreamed up some perfect holiday clothing items.

Tibi, Chinti and Parker, and Markus Lupfer all have stylish updates on the ugly sweater if your friends invite you to an ugly sweater Christmas party but you cannot bring yourself to pick up some previously-worn moth eaten rag from the GoodWill (or from your great aunt's closet).

For the literary salon sartorialist, stun your friends with your erudite reading preferences and clutch Olympia Le-Tan's marvelous Grinch embroidered book-purse - not to be mistaken for a backpack, of course. It's sure to be a conversation starter: "Who is this Dr. Seuss, and what strand of postmodernist deconstruction theorist is he, exactly?"

And of course, if you've ever felt a burning desire to understand the emotions of a cat forced to wear a bell collar around its neck, Charlotte Olympia has concocted a festive version of her sky-high platform pumps by painting them in lush red suede and glimmering gold - and of course, adding golden bells along the ankle strap. You'll make an entrance wherever you go, and with your own soundtrack too!

So what do you all think of these Christmas-themed designer pieces? Would you be willing to shell out big bucks for a gingerbread-man-themed cross-body purse, or would you rather pay for the satisfaction of eating a real cookie?

Have a Haute Halloween!

October 29, 2013

Whoever said Christmas was the only holiday designers could sell seasonal merchandise for? This year, plenty of designers are delivering up delightful treats for Halloween! Splurge on these Halloween-themed pieces and perfect costume accessories if you dare!

La La Land

May 29, 2013

It seems Charlotte Olympia, the eccentric accessories designer popular for her purr-fect kitten loafers, has recently been inspired by the City of Angels for her pre-fall "Hollywoodland" collection.

With playful clutches in the shapes of film slate boards, Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, and film reels, and shoes inspired by the art deco architecture and flashing lights of the city, the line is a wonderful way to show off one's love for film and for Los Angeles, in a fun and playful manner.

They are really cute, fun pieces for a girl who isn't afraid to be bold and a little quirky, which is exactly what I love about Charlotte Olympia's designs. Now, if only they were a little easier on my wallet...

Written in the Stars

April 18, 2013

Maybe you don't take it seriously, but you know you flip to the back of your favorite fashion magazine to see what the upcoming month has in store for you. Horoscopes and the pseudo science of astrology have been around since the ancient world, when people looked to the stars in order to explain natural phenomena and predict the future. And no matter how off those predictions may be (according to Elle's March horoscope, I was supposed to reconnect with someone I had been missing - and that certainly didn't happen - and make an important work decision -except I have no job!)  they are still fun to read through and wonder what if...

Guilty pleasure or not, it seems horoscopes and zodiac symbols are the new trend among designers, making it once again cool to let people know you are a Sagittarius. Lilly Pulitzer, Charlotte Olympia, and others have all debuted zodiac-themed pieces for 2013.

cat power

August 10, 2012

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises

I think we knew this would happen the moment it was announced that Catwoman would be making an appearance in the last of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, but cats are making a bit of a splash in the fashion world. There's just something about felines- you can go from super cute to super sexy in a second with cat-inspired clothes, which is probably why people are eating them up. Here are my favorite cat-inspired picks:

Perfect Pastels

February 27, 2012

Clockwise from top left: Jil Sander paisley jacket; Yves Saint Laurent pink clutch; Charlotte Olympia sandals; D&G tulle midi skirt

Ah, springtime is finally upon us, and it seems that the spring fashions have gone classically spring. Pastels are the march-to-may staple and everyone from Jil Sander to Yves Saint Laurent is jumping on the sweet fifties trend. Mint, peach, and bubblegum are the biggest hits. Take your pick!
