What I Wore | Dubai Dreams

October 14, 2018

What a whirlwind week it's been! This past week I travelled halfway around the world to Dubai for work, and it was a trip to remember.

Dubai is unlike any place I've ever been to, with a fascinating mix of cultures that is reflected in everything from the architecture to the food to the fashion. One thing I noticed and really appreciated was that the women in Dubai truly love fashion and know how to have fun with it.

In Los Angeles, non-ripped jeans, a blouse, and heels are considered dressy, but in Dubai people really dress to the nines, with chic accessories, jewels, and dazzling accents. I think it's a common misconception to assume that "modest fashion" (the norm for dressing in Dubai, especially amongst Muslim women) equals boring, but everyone I saw knew how to rock really fun pieces, whether they were wearing a hijab or not.

Here are some of the outfits I wore during my trip. It was all about the midi and maxi shirts this week, so be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to shop some more midi and maxi dresses I love!

Immediately out of frame of this photo is the Burj Khalifa, aka the tallest building in the world. The only way for me to snap a photo of the tower with myself in it was in a very unflattering double-chin selfie, so enjoy this prettier outfit photo in front of the Dubai Fountains instead.

Rocked this ensemble for the House of Bazaar fashion show at the Mall of the Emirates. The "editor jacket drape" (when you drape your jacket over your shoulders instead of putting your arms through the sleeve) is perfect to wear in Dubai, where you're supposed to cover shoulders while in public places.

After the fashion show, we went out to Pier 7 at the Dubai Marina for "Ladies Night" which is apparently an official thing in Dubai. On Tuesday nights, ladies get to drink for free basically anywhere. Score!

For the day of our event, I wore this beautiful magenta wrap dress from Anthropologie that I found on sale! When I tried it on I was wearing a lipstick shade that matched perfectly, so obviously it was meant to be.

On our last day, we ventured out into the desert for an adventure through the sand dunes. Obviously this made for a seriously fantastic photo shoot, so I took advantage and wore my Ralph Lauren maxi dress that caught the desert breeze so beautifully.

All in all, it was a super fun week, if a bit exhausting; two sixteen-hour flights in a week will do that to a girl! But I definitely recommend visiting Dubai at least once, because it truly is a unique city!
