Baby blue was all over the Spring 2015 runways. And now that we're entering into the last month of 2014, it's time to start looking towards the year ahead. From Fendi to Altuzarra, light, pastel shades of blue dominated collections, on everything from oversized coats to feathery party dresses.
This color has staying power, so invest now with a winter coat or wait for spring with a blue midi skirt. Baby blue looks amazing with black, camel, and cream colors, or stay monochromatic as with the Edun and Jonathan Saunders looks.
No matter what, you are going to look fabulous!

Designers are often inspired by different locations and cultures, but Pre-Fall seems to be all about Asia.
Graphic floral prints and rich silks in saturated shades have found their way onto jackets, pants, and dresses, as designers found inspiration in porcelain designs and traditional Japanese paintings.
Roksanda Ilincic's orange and blue outfit drew on the robes of Buddhist monks as well as the modernized architectural style of futuristic-looking cities like Shanghai and Seoul.
Designers placed a special emphasis on drapery and form this season, with many outfits echoing artfully-arranged saris from India.
Though rooted in traditional dress and artistic style, the eastern-inspired clothes of Pre-Fall 2014 are as modern as the cities in Asia; thoroughly 21st century clothes. I love the two facets of this style - on the one hand, you have fabulously intricate patterning; on the other, simple (but still luxurious) fabrics elegantly draped - and how they vary rather differently but come together to create beautiful clothing.

Pink pastel coats seem to be all the rage right now. Last week when passing by Topshop at the Grove (aka one of the best shopping destinations on the planet) all the mannequins were wearing pastel pink coats and dresses - paired with festive holiday sparkles, of course.
The same styles were seen on the Fall 2013 runways at shows like Carven, Prada, and Jonathan Saunders.
So how does one wear a pastel pink coat without looking like a total cupcake? Take some cues from these guys!

When wearing an oversize coat that is rosy-colored as a fluffy piece of cotton candy, it is best to balance the piece out with simple, sleek separates in neutral colors (like black and white, as the street style stars and bloggers have so wonderfully demonstrated). Menswear inspired accessories like brogues or straightforward boxy bags also counteract the "girly" color if you are worried about this look being too girly.

Ombre is still going strong as a fashion trend, and this fall will see the dip-dyed style get a little cooler.
Jonathan Saunders and Proenza Schouler featured pieces in their Fall 2013 presentations that transformed from the lightest of blues to the darkest of noirs (and sometimes back again).
Whoever said that black and blue didn't go together clearly hasn't been paying attention to runway shows as of late, because the two colors together couldn't look better.
Go black & blue from head-to-two with a lovely dyed dress, or use the trend as an accent with a fun ombre manicure! Go as big or little as you want, but definitely check out this trend.
