I can honestly say that this Oscars ceremony was the best I have seen in a long time.
Yes, the awards ceremony had its awkward moments (we're looking at you guys, John Travolta and Jamie Foxx) but everyone looked beautiful, no one was played out by the music, all the winners were deserving of their recognition, and Ellen absolutely killed it as host - she also temporarily killed Twitter with what is now the most retweeted picture ever (beating out the "Four More Years" picture of President Obama and First Lady Michelle).
Seriously though, that selfie was the bomb:

There weren't any real surprises with who won the big awards (other than the fact that American Hustle was shut out completely, maybe) but I was so happy to see people like Lupita Nyong'o (who gave an incredible and inspiring speech), Spike Jonze, and "Let It Go" songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (congrats on the EGOTs!) walk up to the stage to accept the coveted trophy man. Hearing Matthew McConaughey end his acceptance speech with his famous "Alright, alright, alright" was the icing on the delightfully refreshing cake that was this evening's Oscar ceremony.
Asides from the fact that all the winners seemed to be the ones who truly deserved the awards - there were no dark horse winners - the ceremony was just really fun, in a way it had probably tried to be last year with Seth MacFarlane but as you know, failed. Celebrities took selfies and ate pizza while in designer gowns, Ellen poked fun at Jennifer Lawrence for tripping last year (and again on the red carpet tonight) and collected money to pay for said pizza in Pharrell's now infamous hat. The musical performances were all great, from Pharrell's colorful dancing number to Vampire Weekend's Ezra playing guitar alongside Karen O to, well, Bono.
The ceremony's theme of the night - heros - was incredibly appropriate, as the films this year celebrated heroes of all shapes and sizes, with both superpowers and everyday abilities. There was a triumphant feel to the award show and the winning films - "Let It Go" is the ultimate jam for anyone who has ever felt like they don't belong; Gravity and 12 Years a Slave are both (but in very different ways) stories of perseverance and survival; Dallas Buyers Club a tale of being absolutely who you are and learning to live life despite its adversities.
Truly an inspirational and unforgettable year for film. It's certainly been a while since I have felt so pleased with the events of the Oscars, from the winners to the ceremony to of course, the dresses...

The trend of the evening came in two colors: nude and navy. The majority of women wore soft, blush-hued gowns like the gorgeously detailed Armani Prive dress that Cate Blanchett wore. Kate Hudson looked phenomenal in a cream dress by Versace Atelier and was perhaps one of the best-dressed women of the evening. Kristen Bell looked every bit the princess in a sweeping Roberto Cavalli gown. A number of other actresses wore nude colors, but these three were the best of the bunch by far. Some looks were a bit too nude, in that the ladies needed to spruce up their lipstick or have some sort of pop of color to make their looks stand out.
Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams, bost nominees for best actress, wore stunning shades of midnight blue to the ceremony. The color is rich and statement-making on its own, and both women let their gorgeously-colored dresses do the talking.
The color trends of the evening carried into menswear as well. Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Ryan Seacrest wore cream colored suit jackets, while Kevin Spacey wore an elegant navy tux. Aside from the unconventional shorts tuxedo that Pharrell wore, the men were looking excellently dapper!

These guys were the looks that stirred the most controversy when watching the red carpet at the sorority house and on the internet.
Charlize's invisible straps were just kind of odd and many people said they her dress totally looked like the horns Maleficent has (would have been perfect if Angie had worn this though!). I personally thought Emma Watson's edgy look, but my sisters were not fans of the messy ponytail. I think it looked strange from certain angles, but when I saw it I liked it.
Kerry Washington looked absolutely radiant - seriously, she was on her A-game for hair and makeup - and its hard to criticize what a woman wears while pregnant, but the shape of her dress was just a bit odd, and I hated that weird pin thing. Also, the dress was wrinkled. Always a bad look.
Lastly, I liked Anna Kendrick's look but thought the red detailing at the waist was weird. I would have liked it better in black, or white even. The maroon color was just not doing it for me.

On an evening of gorgeous dresses, newcomer and Oscar winner (!!!) Lupita Nyong'o stood above the rest as the night's best dressed starlet. She's dazzled all season long but tonight was truly her Cinderella moment.
In an aptly-colored baby blue dress by Prada, Nyong'o floated down the red carpet and captivated everyone with her stunning looks and her lovely and humble acceptance speech. She kept the accessories light, wearing only gold rings and bracelets - including a ring with her family's totem on it. She said that the color of her dress reminded her of Nairobi. I love that her outfit had so many personal touches to it. I even loved her headband, which people had mixed opinions on.
And of course, her Clarins lipgloss which she memorably handed to Ellen, is probably being sold out as we speak. If you were wondering why Lupita's been the one everyone's been talking about, hopefully your questions have been answered after watching her tonight. Her speech was eloquent as they have been all awards season, and she really is the type of celebrity you want to root for.
My favorite Lupita moment of the night, though? Seeing her (and Amy and Meryl) get down to Pharrell when he performed "Happy". Girl can jam, and I loved that her dress could move with her dancing!

2013 has been a knockout year for Kerry Washington. Her hit show Scandal continues to impress audiences and critics alike week after week (I promise I'm going to binge-watch it this winter break!) and she just earned a Golden Globe nod for her performance in the drama TV series, she showed America that she could rock funny material when she hosted SNL, and has in general wowed the world with her lovable personality.
Kerry's also made waves in the world of fashion. Her style is rather poised and ladylike, but she's not afraid to mix things up every once and a while and take a fashion dare. It's incredibly rare that a woman can rock both a tea-length frock and an ultra-minidress with the same amount of elegance, but Kerry Washington manages to do so with ease.
The adventures of Olivia Pope are far from over, and we can't wait to see all the scandalous and stylish moments that Kerry Washington will continue to deliver.
I didn't tune in to last night's Teen Choice Awards but I always love seeing what Hollywood's freshest talents wear to the event. Here's my thoughts on the looks that graced the blue carpet.
Chloe Moretz is one of my favorite young Hollywood stars. She always wears fun, age-appropriate fashions that always flatter her and reflect her fun personality. Here she wears a Christopher Kane dress with primary-colored accents. I love the off-the-shoulder silhouette and the bright colors.
Bella Thorne (left) and Lily Collins both wore designs from Fausto Puglisi's Resort 2014 collection. The palm tree print is festive and fun for the teen summer bash, but I prefer Bella's look to Lily's. I rarely dislike Lily's outfits, but I'm not a big fan of her top or hair on this occasion.
I absolutely love Bridget Mendler's fun printed mini by Kelly Wearstler. It is totally fun and youthful without trying too hard to be sexy, which is a problem many teen actresses face with their clothing decisions. And I love her beachy curls; basically, this whole look is a win.
Pretty Little Liars stars Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale both went for midriff-baring looks; Benson's by Armani and Hale's by Houghton. I think Lucy looks absolutely lovely (as usual) and everything about this look is perfect for the event and for summer. Ashley's look, eh, not my favorite, but certainly better than last year's. I like all the components on their own, just not as an outfit.
I immediately fell in love with this dress from Stella McCartney's Resort 2014 collection and love how Kerry Washington wore it. The dress is fun and playful and perfect for the event, and I love her side-swept bangs and her red lips that play off of the red lips on her dress. Perfection!

The theme of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's fashion exhibition for 2013 is "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" and the stars came out on Monday night for the Met Gala, dressed in studs, safety pins, and everything in between.
Some celebrities took great pleasure in the theme and used it as an excuse to wear fun, punk-inspired clothing and costume. Others still kept punk influences in their designer looks but went for couture more than chaos. And some stayed true to their personal styles and used the Met Gala - often called the Oscars of fashion - as simply another night to wear a fabulous outfit.
Sarah Jessica Parker in her usual over-the-top, whimsical style, went full-out for the night's theme in a mohawk-style hairpiece by Philip Treacy, Giles Deacon dress, and fabulous thigh-high plaid boots from Christian Louboutin. The reviews of her ensemble have been mixed, but I think it's a fun homage to the punk culture.
Teen fashion darling Elle Fanning took a daring turn in a red, white, and blue tie-dyed Rodarte gown and heavy blue winged eye makeup. The look is very edgy and all, but it's just not that pretty, so I'd call it a rare fashion misstep for Elle.
Kerry Washington wore a violet floral gown by Vera Wang but kept it edgy with a black taffeta train, black leather gloves, and purple streaks in her hair. A perfect combination of sophistication and punk, chaos and couture.
Rising star Aubrey Plaza absolutely blew me away in this Marios Schwab medieval-inspired cape dress. It was a great fashion statement that took influence from the gala's theme without going overboard.
And of course black was in high abundance. Channelling Debbie Harry was Anne Hathaway, who wore a stunning black gown from the Valentino archives and sported a blonde pixie cut. Anne herself was surprised that the Valentino - usually a dressmaker for prim and proper ladies - fit the theme so well.
Supermodel Miranda Kerr went a sexy, glam route in a cut-out Michael Kors. Her look was boundary-pushing while still sticking to her signature Victoria's Secret Angel style.
Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus went full-out goth-punk in a black mesh Marc Jacobs dress and spikey blonde hair. I would hate the look anywhere else, but I love her take on the theme on this occasion.
Gisele Bundchen rocked out in an Anthony Vaccarello mini with chainlink details holding it all together. I would never be bold enough to rock such a daring cut, but Gisele makes it look so effortless. Again, playing with the theme while sticking to her style.

Who were your favorites at the Met Gala this year?
The final hair frontier for me, though, was braids.
To be entirely honest, up until a few months ago I considered myself completely inept with weaving my hair back and forth. For whatever reason the concept was quite challenging. I've mastered the standard braid over the past few months and have recently learned how to do a nice fishtail braid. French braids have proven to be the most difficult, but I am determined to teach myself the art of the French braid by the summer.
I think Shoshanna of Girls may have been the divine inspiration for my braid craze. That girl somehow pulls off the whackiest hairstyles and I love it. Absolutely love it.
Elsewhere, runways can't get enough of braids.
