Not everyone may look upon a neon pink turtleneck and proclaim it a wonderfully versatile layering piece, but then again, not everyone is a Fashion Barbie. Believe it or not, I've been searching for a chic pink turtleneck for quite some time, but I wasn't able to find the perfect shade—until now.
Of all things, Emily In Paris urged me to continue my search, as one scene featured Emily rocking a very chic pink sweater that reminded me of my quest. Unfortunately Emily's exact sweater was Chanel, which is a bit out of my price range, but I headed to ShopStyle to see what else was out there on the interwebs.
H&M turned out to be my savior, offering up this stylish knit for under $15! It's super lightweight, making it easy to layer with dresses, shirts, coats—you name it!
Inspired by the bright colors, I pinned my hair with matching hair clips and swiped on the brightest lipstick I could find, and dressed up in two very different outfits to showcase just how versatile even a bright pink piece can be.

With a statement piece this bold, you don't need to do a whole lot to make a cool outfit. I paired my pink mock neck with high-waisted wide leg jeans from Zara and my Air Force Ones that I wear most every day. It's simple but looks so cool, and can I just say how much I have missed wearing flare jeans? Let's bring them back!

For my girly girls, another way to style this piece is to pair the top with a retro houndstooth jacket and a cute mini skirt. Since the top is so fitted, it's fun to play with proportions and add an oversize jacket.
Either way, this top will turn heads.

I feel like 2019 has really been Ariana's year. She kicked off the year with the release of a new album, headlined Coachella (where I got to see her perform!), and is still dropping new songs with Lizzo and on the Charlie's Angels soundtrack. So it felt like the perfect opportunity to pay homage to her style—and more importantly, her iconic ponytail.
I gotta say, I have mad respect for Ari for wearing this tight, giant ponytail all day, everyday. I rocked this look for only a few hours and needed to massage my scalp and neck for a solid 10 minutes. But once I donned the pony, I felt newly transformed and really confident, so I understand why it has become an essential part of her style persona.
Here's how I transformed into Ariana Grande:
Hair & Makeup
I have never worn any sort of extensions before, so this was a little tricky to put on. My roommate attached the pony to my head, and we even needed a third person just to hold up the hair because it was so heavy! But still, definitely #worthit for the glorious ponytail. I even fooled quite a few people into thinking it was my real hair! 😂
For the makeup, I channeled Ariana's classic stage makeup with a strong cat eye and nude lips. For my eyeliner, I used Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner. To get the nude lip, I lined my lips with Maybelline Color Sensational lip liner in "Magnetic Mauve", slightly over-lining them to get that plump lip effect. Then I filled them in with Flesh Cosmetics's Fleshy Lip Lipstick in "Chew".
I also used my BH Cosmetics Desert Oasis eyeshadow palette to give my eyes an orange-nude color and sculpt my cheekbones. For the finishing touch, I added a pair of false eyelashes (my first time wearing them!) to get those big doe eyes.
Outfit
I opted for one of Ariana's out-and-about sweatshirt dress looks for my costume, which was super comfortable as well as easy to create! To be honest, I would wear this look on a normal basis, sans giant ponytail, because it is so cute and comfy.
All you need is a sweatshirt dress—I picked this one from ASOS—and a pair of thigh-high boots, which I already had in my closet. I also threw on a black choker for good measure, but you could easily wear a pretty crystal one as well.

When I was a little girl, my mom always dressed me in Laura Ashley dresses. I like to describe my pre-schooler style as akin to a Von Trapp child, with most of my outfits looking like they may or may not have been made out of upholstery fabric. In fact, I even had a dress that was made from the same fabric as my childhood duvet cover; the dress was made completely independently from the duvet, by the way, and my mom just happened to stumble upon it in a boutique.
My style has gone through many transformations since then, but it seems we have arrived back where we started, as I find myself in Laura Ashley prints yet again, now at the age of 25.
Of all retailers, Urban Outfitters joined forces with Laura Ashley for an exclusive capsule collection full of romantic floral print pieces, including a delightfully girly pink babydoll dress that caught my attention last month. With balloon sleeves, empire waist, and toile de jouy print, it had everything I was looking for in a garment.
Ultra-feminine pieces reminiscent of prairie dresses and the Victorian era are presently en vogue and I find myself embracing the unabashed sweetness of pastel colors, poofy dresses, and dainty prints. Taylor Swift is doing it—so why not everyone else, too?
It's funny to think that this dress in particular is so well suited to both 3-year-old and 25-year-old Lindsey alike, but maybe part of me always knew, even then, that this is who I was born to be: a bright spirit with a completely unironic love of all things fashion, no matter how ridiculous or feminine or frivolous.
I may experiment with hundreds more trends throughout my lifetime, but this is one I will always come back to, because it is so completely me.

It's true: I finally caved in and bought a big-sleeved wrap-around top from Zara. Over the past few months I've been obsessing over these styles of tops, and over the weekend I was finally like, "Lindsey, you just gotta get one for yourself!" And I did! And it's fantastic!

Here at The Fashion Barbie, I always try to be real with how I dress. When I post personal style outfits, they are always outfits that I actually wear in my everyday life, and often I pose for #ootd pics when out and about. When I do plan photoshoots, I only ever post outfits that I naturally wear. I may be a blogger, but I'm a real person who wears clothes in real life, so I always try to showcase that on my blog!

For the ever-stylish Camille Charriere of Camille Over the Rainbow, she has concocted a fabulous outfit centered around a plain white tee. Paired with a silk neck scarf, a utilitarian navy skirt, and summery rope sandals, this is a perfect look for an August day. She chose to wear it while biking around, but it could work just as easily for a weekend brunch or a picnic in the park.
Bonus: if you switch out the rope sandals for pointed pumps, you have a stylish work outfit. See! The white T-shirt is totally versatile.

One of my favorite bloggers, Sarah Mikaela of Framboise Fashion, has a penchant for outfits that are equal parts sophisticated and playful. She's modern and feminine, and combines high and low, edgy and classic, with perfect ease. There aren't many people who can make a sweatshirt look sophisticated and work-appropriate, but Mikaela does it so well that I want to replicate this look for myself!

One of my favorite fashion bloggers of the moment is Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. The NYC girl has fabulous personal style that combines downtown urban cool with vintage 70s flare, and she's an expert at mixing designer duds and high street favorites. She's fabulously cool, but her style is attainable and easy to recreate!

During my time interning at WhoWhatWear I was introduced to the sartorial genius of Pernille Teisbaek of the blog Look de Pernille, and I absolutely cannot get enough of her covetable style. The Danish blogger and stylist has a penchant for the effortlessly cool style of the seventies, preferring luxe basics and timeless staples to flashy, trendy looks.
What is Teisbaek into as of late? Try flare jeans and turtlenecks, two styles that are gaining steady momentum this spring. When paired together, you've got a comfy-chic look that will make you look like the coolest girl on the block. Slip your feet into seventies-style western boots with a stacked heel, and throw on a classic double-breasted jacket if you're feeling chilly, and you're good to go!

Street style stars have a tendency to go for loud, bold designer pieces in order to catch the eye of the photographers, but sometimes its the effortlessly cool looks that truly stun. Such was the case with model Grace Hartzel's seventies bohemian look.
When I saw this outfit I immediately wanted to replicate it, or at least I was quite inspired by it. The seventies boho style is completely on trend this fall, and I love the creative pairings of different prints and textures.
The Key Pieces
A velvet blazer may seem like a fashion faux-pas, but when draped over the shoulders in the style of top fashion editors, it becomes a chic outerwear choice. A printed long-sleeve dress with a drawstring waist is a timeless piece and the perfect dress for anyone wanting to replicate this outfit.
Fringe purses are hugely popular right now, but why not pump things up by purchasing a fringe purse in a bold blue color? Chelsea boots are a personal favorite shoe option, and a caramel brown color is extremely versatile. Have a sliver of sock peeking out for a playful touch.

I've always been fond of the style of the 50s and 60s. The full skirts, the strands of pearls, the glamorous beauty looks—it's all quite feminine and fun. I've come around to the minimalist tendencies of today's fashion but every once in a while it's nice to see that some people still appreciate a good full midi skirt.
Normcore is great and all, but nothing beats the feminine style of The Modern Lady.

Oh, chambray button-up, how I love you so. You can be worn unbuttoned as a lightweight jacket, or tied over a bikini and work as a beach cover-up, or you can be tucked into an LBS (little black skirt, of course!) and be worn to work!

Wanted to share my work outfit but was too lazy to make my roommate take pictures of me, so here are the items in collage format. It works just as well, right?
Simple but oh-so-chic, just the way I like it!
I attended a friend's summer barbeque in Venice Beach yesterday and wore a perfectly summery white lace dress paired with a plaid shirt to add some country edge to the ensemble.
The LWD (Little White Dress, for those of you who are acronymically-challenged) is a summer must-have, as it works for a number of events. For example, I've worn this dress to picnics, dinner parties, the beach, a beach-themed party, class...the list goes on and on.
I also love using a button-up shirt as a jacket in summer. Button-up shirts tend to be more light-weight than most jackets, so they work wonderfully for when the day gets a little cool.

As contradictory as it may seem, I've been noticing camouflage prints more and more (get it, because camouflage is supposed to make you more invisible). There was once a time when I was all about the camouflage - I distinctly remember this awful gray sweater I would wear, and I'm sure I had an assortment of pink *girly* camo products as well. Naturally I overdid it, and then proceeded to boycott the print at all costs. It was a remnant of my poor tween fashion choices - and the poor fashion choices of the early 2000s in general - and I was probably fatigued (oh, puns) by the amount of times I saw camo (mostly the unflattering digitized desert kind) in my heavily military hometown.
The way I saw it, camouflage in its normal form was too practical to be fashionable. When I was younger, at least, the only way to make the print "girlier" was to tinge it pink, but I quickly saw how cheesy that was.

Nowadays I'm coming back around to the idea of incorporating the military print back into everyday wear. Army and navy influences have always been there in fashion, and with the recent popularity of the army green jacket, I'm not all too surprised to see camo come back in style.
The key to camo's present success has not been "girly-ing it up" with pink hues and rhinestones. No, today's woman is more natural and desires to keep her appropriated garment pieces more authentic. Instead the print has been applied to feminine pieces - swimsuits, classic pumps, form fitting T-shirts and skinny jeans - and accessorized with airy silks and ladylike extras to give that perfect feminine/masculine balance.
As a frequenter of clothing retail establishments, I like to consider myself somewhat of a shopping expert (I know, my mom will be so proud). And one thing I've noticed in my many outings is that most people get so wrapped up in the thought of purchasing fabulous new clothes that they neglect the ones they are already wearing.
Seriously, the amount of people I see in sweatpants while shopping is quite disconcerting - and they're not the cool Rag & Bone cashmere sweatpants either, they're just...sad.
When you know you'll be trying on a lot of new clothes, of course you want to be comfortable, but never forgo stylishness in the pursuit of comfort! The two are not mutually exclusive. Besides, salespeople treat you so much better when you are well-dressed (it's totally a fact) and why not show off your serious fashion game when trying to expand your closet?
Here are some of my tips to dressing when going on a shopping excursion:
WHY IT WORKS: When you're on a big shopping trip, you want to wear things that are easy, effortless, and not a hassle to take on and off when trying clothes on in the dressing room. A jersey dress with a simple zip (or no zipper at all) is perfect for the job. You look chic and fashionable with all the comfort of the pair of sweatpants (but way cuter, let's be honest).
A crossbody bag is all you need to carry your essentials, and you don't want to feel weighed down with a heavy tote - along with your shopping bags, of course!
If I'm planning on trying on shoes, I always wear boots with socks just in case I find myself trying a new pair on. Personally I hate those disposable socks and like trying on new shoes with thicker socks that I will actually be wearing with them. If you're skipping the shoe department, a pair of slip-on ballet flats or zip-up gladiator sandals are perfect shoe options. Just don't wear anything with lots of ties or buckles, because that will become a hassle really quickly.
If dresses really aren't your style (or if its a little too cold for one) here's an alternative outfit:

Thanksgiving can be a weird holiday, clothing-wise.
It is usually a holiday full of family gatherings, so we desire to dress our best. BUT there is also a lot of food involved, and no one likes a noticeable food baby, so that eliminates a good deal of dresses.
Shift dresses and empire waists were made for Turkey Day. Their loose-fitting structures are perfect for a day of indulgences, and you can wear one of these dresses without fear of looking drab or like you just ate, well, a whole turkey.
Thanksgiving dinners also tend to either be pretty casual family affairs or more dressy occasions with friends, so I've provided two perfect Thanksgiving outfits for whatever style of the holiday you celebrate!
