The new year is always a time for a wardrobe refresh. Maybe you've made a style related resolution and need to update your wardrobe. Maybe you've finally noticed that you don't own an LBD and need to stock up on the basics. Maybe you just want a new look. But I always find myself reflecting on my style and how I want it to evolve and change over the year once the calendar flips to January 1.

2016 is going to be a big year for me, I already know this much. I will be graduating from college and entering the real world, hopefully with a fabulous job at a fashion magazine or website (we'll see, though). It's going to be a huge life change, not being in school for the first time ever, basically, and I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

Knowing that this huge transition is looming closer and closer, I've been trying to slowly transition my style, buying things that I could see wearing in a (fashionable) office environment and not just to the beach or to Coachella. That's why for my January 2016 Wish List, I'm focusing on elevated, fashionable basics that are versatile and timeless. Prepping for the real world doesn't mean I have to start wearing boring clothes, but I want my professional wardrobe to be stylish and polished, with just the right amount of edge for good measure.

A studded leather LBD may not scream office-appropriate, but this McQ Alexander McQueen dress with a tuxedo blazer and some classic pumps and you've got a perfect look for a day writing fabulous editorial content at Vogue. I can never get enough of dainty necklaces, and this Melissa Joy Manning opal pendant strikes the perfect balance between simple and unique.

I've been seeing heeled ballet flats like this Lanvin pair for a while, probably in part due to the popularity of a certain pair of Chanel shoes. If you're digging the style but want a cheaper option, Jeffrey Campbell makes a similar style.

Of course, it's not all boring work-appropriate attire! A soft, wear-everywhere T-shirt and a pair of high-rise black jeans are the perfect basics to invest in. Seriously, they go with everything.

If you're looking to invest in some elevated, non-boring basics (if that makes any sense), Net-A-Porter has a great edit of wardrobe essentials that I highly recommend checking out!
