Chanel heads home for it's annual Métiers D'Art collection

Rome. Mumbai. Dallas. Over the years, Karl Lagerfeld has taken the annual Chanel Métiers D'Art collection (the brand's version of Pre-Fall) all around the world, celebrating the fashions of cultures near and far while also displaying the fine craftsmanship of Chanel's artisan partners. But this year, Chanel stayed close to home, with guests travelling to the newly-renovated Ritz Paris for lunch and a runway show (and a party the night before, of course).

The Ritz holds a special place in Chanel history, as it was Coco Chanel's home for a time. As the hotel reopens its doors to socialites and wealthy travellers, it seems an appropriate time to celebrate the hotel's connection to Chanel.

Dubbed "Paris Cosmopolite", the models weaved their way through the crowded dining room in elegant clothing as if they were Parisian socialites on their way to lunch. There were the usual Chanel motifs—tweed suits, pearls, floral beading and camellias galore—but they were met with modern trends like bomber jackets and crop tops. As always, Karl Lagerfeld seemed interested in merging past and present, the style of Coco and her Ritz posse in the 20s and 30s as well as the present cool-girl style of Lily Rose Depp and Willow Smith.

One could see a fashionable Parisian woman shopping along the Rue Saint Honoré in a knit bomber and the slouchy red boots, or making their way to a party in any one of the beaded frocks, paired with boyish brogues, of course. There were plenty of dresses that I hope to see on red carpets, too, but the real stars of the collection were the looks I could envision in the real world, sitting at the Hemingway Bar, or walking along the Seine.

Speaking of star looks, I am all about the oversized flowers that the models wore in their hair. Say goodbye to the overdone flower crown and hello to a few well-placed giant fabric camellias. They were a fun addition to the outfits and added a bit of whimsy to each look, which I adore.
