Back in middle school, I was all about the wide belt. A patent leather belt, at least 3 inches wide, was the perfect accessory to give my outfit the chicness of a Hannah Montana extra and accentuate my nonexistent, middle schooler curves. And don't even get me started on my adoration for wide belts post-The Devil Wears Prada. Anne Hathaway rocked the you-know-what out of those belted looks, and for such a long time I was sold that that was the epitome of fashionable accessorizing.

Of course, opinions change and style evolves, and over time I threw childish things aside; and by childish things I mean my obsession with obnoxiously large belts, obviously. Up until now, I've scoffed at the idea of wearing anything but an ultra-skinny belt around my hips or waist.

And yet, here I am, finding myself loving wide belts all over again. To be fair, there really is no better way to accentuate a waist than with a belt (sorry, Kardashians, those waist trainers aren't the answer) so I'm re-embracing my middle school obsession and letting belts back into my life.

The rekindling of this particular sartorial relationship is thanks, in part, to a generous shopping spree at Ralph Lauren a few weeks back, where I picked up this classic leather belt along with some other goodies.

The belt was technically free, but even if it weren't I would have picked it up, since it's such a classic piece that I know I will wear for years to come. Because even if this style falls by the wayside a year or two from now, I now know from experience that it's only a matter of time before it will be back on the front lines of fashion.
