It may have been almost a month since the first season of Bridgerton dropped on Netflix, but I am still spending way too much time thinking about this fun and sultry Regency series. The Dukes are hot, the clothes are eye-catching, and the idea of spending months just flittering around from one ball to the next in search of handsome suitors and juicy gossip sounds more delightful than ever in this era of social isolation.
It should come as no surprise that I enjoyed the fashion of this series for its playful modern take on Regency styles. Between this and EMMA. 2020 was quite the year for Regency fashion, and between the two I have found my interest in interpreting these styles for the modern age growing. Sure, I may not flock to wear a bonnet and opera gloves to promenade around The Grove, but I have noticed my eye focusing on dainty midi dresses in pastel hues, corset-style tops, and delicate pearl and feather details. So if you are like me and loving the Bridgerton style, here are some ways to bring the fashion inspirations into the 21st century:
Look For Empire and Babydoll Midi Dresses
The traditional garb of the Regency debutant was a classically-inspired empire dress, fitted at the torso and ballooning out below. Our modern take on this would probably be the babydoll dress, what with its exaggerated high waistline. If you're looking to dress like a modern-day Daphne Bridgerton, I'd suggest typing in "empire midi dress" or "babydoll midi dress" for modern equivalents. In case you need some inspiration, I've rounded up a few options for you:
Opt For Jacquard, Toile & Lace
These decadent fabrics are staples of the 18th and 19th century and will make any ensemble look glamorous and regal. To keep with the Bridgerton aesthetic, stick with fabrics in light hues and pastels for that candy-colored vibe.
Add A Corset (Or Stay)
Technically stays were the more popular form of upper undergarment during the Regency period, since the billowing dresses didn't require a snatched waist, but corsets are having a big moment right now anyway so you might as well lean into it. I think they look super fun when paired with relax-fit jeans, but throw on a corset over your sweet midi dress for an exciting twist on Regency style.
Ruffle Some Feathers
The ladies aren't the only ones having fun with fashion in Bridgerton. I love the menswear of the Regency era, from the stylish tailcoats to their ruffled collars. Channel their energy with a high-necked ruffle of your own.
Adorn With Embellishments
An outfit isn't complete without plenty of sequins, feathers, pearls and jewels. Rock a feathered headband or pretty pearl necklace to complete your Bridgerton-inspired ensemble.

If you are a fan of good television, you're probably watching Succession. If you aren't, well, log into your friend's HBO GO and correct that oversight, girl! I'm not alone in saying that Succession is one of the best things on television right now. It may market itself as a Shakespearian tragedy about a family-run media empire—and at times, it is gut-wrenchingly devastating—but it's also a dark comedy about a bunch of ill equipped, out-of-touch rich kids stepping all over one another to win the unattainable affection of their father.
The characters may be total monsters (if you're caught up, just the mere mention of "Boar on the Floor" will make you shudder) and even the (more) sympathetic characters like Shiv and Greg have the capacity for sinister behavior, but it's fun to laugh at their incompetence.
But even if you haven't caught up on the HBO show yet, we can all appreciate the style icon that is Siobhan Roy. The only daughter of Murdoch-esque media mogul Logan Roy, Shiv is fierce and independent. She's got a clear opinion on the world and a distinct point of view that sets her apart from her brothers, and she means business.

Her color palette is neutral and muted, with the occasional jewel tone slipping through, focusing instead on luxurious materials like cashmere and silk.

How a California cool girl styles fall's hottest coat
Courtney Trop of the blog Always Judging is one of my favorite sources of fashion inspiration. She's the epitome of cool, relaxed dressing, but always adds fun and unexpected touches to her looks. Take this take on the long suede coat, for example: the rich green hue is a fresh take on suede, and I love how she pairs it with a classic T-shirt and jeans combo. Throw in a pair of edgy snakeskin sandals, and you've got yourself a perfect fall outfit.
Living somewhere a bit colder than forever-70° southern California? Switch out the sandals for pointed chelsea boots, swap the T-shirt for a turtleneck sweater, and top off with a wide-brim hat.

For the ever-stylish Camille Charriere of Camille Over the Rainbow, she has concocted a fabulous outfit centered around a plain white tee. Paired with a silk neck scarf, a utilitarian navy skirt, and summery rope sandals, this is a perfect look for an August day. She chose to wear it while biking around, but it could work just as easily for a weekend brunch or a picnic in the park.
Bonus: if you switch out the rope sandals for pointed pumps, you have a stylish work outfit. See! The white T-shirt is totally versatile.

One drawback to the instantaneous nature of fashion? The lag time between a collection's debut and its actual availability in stores seems longer than ever. Designs that we all gushed over back in February won't make their ways into stores for another month or two, and the resort collections we are seeing now won't be available until November. By the time fall fashion does roll into stores in August, it's old news. I've written my thoughts on the collection, I've seen celebrities and street style stars wear the designs, and I've read every review or thinkpiece on the minutiae of the sartorial references. By August, I've already moved on to gearing up for Spring 2016.
Fortunately with Resort, which celebrates the ability to escape to the Caribbean in the dead of winter, the clothes and styles work just as well during the summer as they do on a tropical vacation. The actual items won't be available for a few more months, but it's never too early to start wearing the trends of resort.

Over the past few years, Vanessa Hudgens has built up quite the reputation as a Coachella fashion queen and wearer of festival styles 365 days a year. Basically a walking Free People ad. And while her flower crowns and flowy dresses were acceptable on the festival grounds, her bohemian princess style definitely ran its course after a while.
Thankfully, Hudgens has undergone a period of personal style refinement. A "style evolution" would be perhaps too drastic of a term, because at the heart of her looks Hudgens still exudes bohemian/hippie style, but it's a more polished, upscale version that combines festival-ready elements with classic pieces.

When I interned at C Magazine last year I had the extreme privilege of working with fashion editor Annina Mislin. Every day I came in I would grow envious of Annina's minimalist-cool fashions and her simple approach to personal style, while also marveling at her ability to craft gorgeous fashion editorials. Basically, Annina is who I aspire to one day be (and dress as).
