What I Wore | Cruisin'

May 25, 2016

Anyone who says you can't bike in a skirt is a liar

I'm home for an indefinite amount of time a little bit (hire me, LA-based fashion companies!) but home isn't a bad place to be, since home happens to be a beautiful beach town. I especially love the summertime here, when the weather is nice and I can go weeks without ever using my car. Instead, I'll bike around town on my trusty pink beach cruiser, wind in my hair, to pick up my morning iced latte or head to the bookstore or meet friends for dinner at a local restaurant! Ah, the beauty of living on a tiny island; nothing is ever too far away and all can be accessed on bike. Besides, when summer really gets going and the tourists start to invade, it's impossible to find parking anyways, so biking it is!

This weekend was absolutely lovely, and on Sunday (when I took these pics) I spent the whole day outside, reading my new book and hopefully getting a tan! It was one of those days when I wore a swimsuit all day long, which is the number one sign that your summer is going well.

Of course, as lovely as my hometown is, they still don't appreciate people walking into shops with nothing but a swimsuit and flip flops on, so I constructed a cute cover-up with an old button-down top from Anthropologie and a flowy skirt from Urban Outfitters. One of my favorite summer styling tricks is to tie a button-down top at the waist when paired with a high-waisted skirt for a flirty look. Besides, I was wearing an adorable itsy bitsy teeny weeny (blue) polka dot bikini from J. Crew and wanted to show it off, so I let a bit of it peek out.

Swipe a red lip on and you immediately look 129% more put-together. Plus, I love how the red lip combined with the tied shirt gave my look a retro 50s vibe!

Anyways, here's the whole outfit, and below, how to get the look for yourself!

  2. This is such a great summer ensemble. Love your slides (I have the same ones) and bag. Adorable photos, and you make it look easy on the bike there, but I have a feeling I'd loose my shoe and fall of. LOL!

    1. Thank you, Gina! The slides are so perfect and easy for summer, literally slip 'em on and go! I haven't had any problems biking with them, but I have had the shoelaces of my Converse sneakers get caught up on the pedals before!

  3. You look so cute! I really like how you've tied the shirt of the bikini- such a great look for Summery beach days. If only I could look this great on a bike- in Australia it's the law to wear a helmet

    1. Thank you, Rachel! We have to wear helmets until we're 18 in California, but after that it's free-flowing hair in the wind! lol
