What I Wore | Mid-Week Blues

March 31, 2016

As of Wednesday, I've worn denim in one form or another every day this week. Will I be able to keep this up until Friday? Let's see!

On Wednesdays I don't have class, so in order to motivate myself to get out of bed and be productive, I always try to dress up so that I will be encouraged to get out of the house and do things. Because really, did an outfit actually happen if no one was there to appreciate it?

One of my favorite go-to looks is a pair of boyfriend jeans with a chic, rolled-up button-down shirt and a pair of sandals to keep the look from becoming too casual. I'm really digging this pair of Via Spiga sandals I got recently. They're nude, so they go with everything, and have a perfect not-too-high stacked heel so they add height but are actually comfortable enough to wear all day and walk around.

To accessorize, I threw on my new necklace from Madewell (so obsessed with marble lately) and some old rings from C. Wonder (which has come back from the dead !!! but on the Home Shopping Network or something, weird). To finish off, my trusty sunglasses and a simple Louis Vuitton monogram clutch. The designer logo/monogram is making a comeback thanks to designers like Nicholas Ghesquiere and Alessandro Michele, thoughts?

Thanks to my sister-friend Bree who is always willing to take pictures for me!

Check out the full outfit below and see how to get the look!

How to Wear an Off-the-Shoulder Top

We The People Style
Everywhere I turn it seems off-the-shoulder tops are slowly taking over the world, urging collarbones and clavicles to shimmy their ways out of normal shoulder-covering tops and into something a little more flirty. I for one love any chance to show off my shoulders, so count me as part of the fan club!

Off-the-shoulder tops come in two basic variations (fitted and loose) but for this post I've mainly focused on loose tops, as I think they are more suited for spring and summer. If it's a tunic-length top, I like pairing it with fitted pants or tucked in to a pencil or A-line skirt. If it's short or cropped, wide-leg trousers are the perfect compliment! As I always say, good styling is all about balancing proportions, so keep that in mind when creating an outfit featuring an off-the-shoulder top.

I also love the addition of a simple necklace, as it draws attention to the neckline and dresses things up a bit. A thin gold or silver pendant necklace is all you need.

Vacation Recap (Part II) | Las Vegas

March 22, 2016

Vegas or Paris?
Don't forget to read Part I here!

Lake Tahoe was lovely, but this was my last spring break, so I knew I had to go out in style. And since I did Mexico last year, what better place to party it up than Vegas?

Drinks at the Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan
Wearing Forever21 dress and Rebecca Minkoff purse
We landed around 9pm from Reno, and since we were still exhausted from skiing, we decided to take it easy the first night and just get a taste for Sin City. Our hotel was conveniently attached to the Cosmopolitan, so we got some drinks there and called it a night relatively early (as in, in bed by 1am).

Our first plates of many at Bacchanal
Window shopping at the Forum Shops

Watching the fountains outside of the Bellagio
The next day we ventured over to Bacchanal at Caesar's Palace for a glorious feast truly fit for the gods. I ate cheeses, prime rib, lobster bisque, and countless types of sushi. Oh, and bottomless mimosas too!

To walk off our food bellies we wandered around the casinos for a bit (I lost $20 in blackjack and that was the extent of my gambling) and then did some shopping at the Forum Shops. Like everything at Caesar's Palace, the decor was all classically-inspired, and there are plenty of shops for all price points. Travel tip: if you're looking to get a nice designer piece, Vegas is the place to do it because they have a lower sales tax!

The gang's all ready for Calvin Harris
Hakkasan Look

That night we went out to Hakkasan nightclub at MGM Grand to see Calvin Harris perform a live set. It was really fun but ohmigod I don't think my feet have ever hurt so badly after a night out. We arrived around 10pm to make sure we could get in, but Calvin didn't go on until 1:30am, making for a lot of standing around. It was all worth it though because it was an amazing set, plus, I got to wear my brand new dress from Revolve!

Found a new dress at Urban Outfitters!

The next afternoon we did some more exploring, checking out the Bellagio, Planet Hollywood, Aria, and the Paris hotel. For lunch we grabbed burgers at Burgr (make sure to get their onion rings!) and while waiting for a table I popped into Urban Outfitters and found this T-shirt dress I had been admiring!

For our last night in Vegas we went to the Pitbull concert (yes, seriously). My friend is an unashamed true fan and while I agreed to go mostly because the rest of my friends bought tickets, I must admit, unironically, that it was an amazing show. What a man, that Mr. 305.

After Pitbull we went to Marquee back at the Cosmopolitan and danced the night away to Dash Berlin. Woke up the next morning with just enough time to catch our ride back to LA!

All in all, a pretty good week! I spent most of Sunday catching up on sleep, so obviously I had a fun time :)

Vacation Recap (Part I) | Lake Tahoe

March 21, 2016

Looking out over the lake
Wearing J. Crew sweater
As I mentioned in my last post, I've been away from the blog all week because I've been on spring break! It's been great to take a week off from school, writing, and all the craziness of senior year to just relax and have some serious fun with friends.

For my final real spring break, I did a two-parter trip: for the first half of the week, Lake Tahoe; for the second half, Las Vegas! Today I'm going to talk about my Tahoe experience (check back tomorrow for Vegas craziness!!!)

The best start to any road trip? In-N-Out, duh!
Wearing J. Crew T-shirt
Bright and early on Saturday morning, my friends and I piled into a car and headed up the 5 towards Lake Tahoe. Of course we had to stop at In-N-Out, because really, is any California roadtrip complete without those iconic burgers?

The drive wasn't too bad, and though we did hit some rain coming into Sacramento, we managed to avoid the snowstorm rolling in! Of course, that storm continued all through Sunday, so our first day of skiing at Heavenly was cut a little short due to cold, windy conditions and nonstop snow. Seriously guys, I have learned that I am a total spring skier. I like my slopes sunny and groomed, but it was interesting to try and ski through fresh-falling snow. But yeah, I was happy to call it an early day and spend the rest of the afternoon drinking hot chocolate with Baileys.

Don't tell me there's  such a thing as "too many carbs"
Because high wind conditions were supposed to carry over into Monday, we decided to take the day off from skiing and explore the town of South Lake Tahoe. It's kind of cool because technically one half is in California and the other half is in Nevada, so as soon as you cross the state line there's all these casinos. In fact, the Heavenly ski resort has terrain on both sides, so you can literally ski from one state to another!

Anyways, we went down by the lake and then went beer tasting at Cold Water Brewery in town. If you ever find yourself there, I highly recommend the Tahoe Loaf, which is basically a huge loaf of sourdough bread with ooey gooey delicious melted cheese dip (but be warned, you need a few people to eat it; there were six of us and we struggled!) and also all the beer was great.

Snacks with a view
Seriously, this place is too beautiful
Wearing J. Crew sweater
On Tuesday we drove out to Kirkwood ski resort, which is a bit further out but definitely worth the drive! Because it's away from the Lake, there are less people (I don't think I waited in a single chairlift line) and there are some truly great runs. If you're an advanced skier, the backside of the mountain is incredible, and you can't miss out on The Wall, Kirkwood's famous double-black run with a very accurate name. I wasn't looking to hurt myself so I avoided that area, lol.

Also, shoutout to my friend Michael and his family for hosting us at their cabin! Having a lovely place to stay and plenty of food to eat was so clutch, and just look at the views we got! But yeah, thank goodness I was skiing hard everyday or else I would have gained like ten pounds from all the food we ate (and alcohol we drank...hey, it is spring break!)

Pro Tip: if you have hair that tangles easily like me, braided pigtails are your friend! Also, don't I rock the goggles look?
There's a reason they call this place "Heavenly"
For the last day we went back to Heavenly, and boy does that resort live up to its name! It was so weird to see how different it looked from Sunday, when you could barely see ten feet ahead of you because it was snowing so hard, to Wednesday, when it was crystal clear and actually a little warm by the afternoon. We got another full day of skiing in since our flight to Vegas wasn't until 7:30 that night, and needless to say I was exhausted by the end of the day! But it was all worth it for some great skiing and great company!

What did you do for spring break this year? And don't forget to check back for Part II tomorrow!

Spring Break!

My Favorite Shoes from ASOS Right Now

March 9, 2016

Via @StudioDIY's Instagram
Important news: ASOS is filled with amazing, adorable shoes right now.

Seriously, I want them all. And what I love most of all is that the online retailer features plenty of cute flat and low-heel options, which, for a tall girl with a bunion problem like me, is perfect! So I thought I'd share my favorites with you guys!

Which pair is your favorite? Let me know!

Shopping Trip Finds

BDG Gretel Striped Square-Neck Mini Dress from Urban Outfitters
Yesterday my mom and I did some spring shopping at Fashion Island in Newport Beach (pretty much a halfway point between San Diego and Los Angeles) and while I only walked away with a few items, I'm really excited to wear them. Also, I've got some ideas for some potential future purchases as well as some birthday gift ideas.

First, I found this super cute BDG dress at Urban Outfitters. I've been trying to find a cute T-shirt dress, and I like that this one has some shape to it to make it a little more feminine. I can't wait to style it, as the possibilities are endless: go casual with some sneakers and loose jacket, or downtown cool with ankle boots and some leather, or even cute and flirty with a pair of heels. I love dresses like this that are easily transformable and can work for a number of occasions; just the kind of thing every girl should have in her wardrobe!

Also, if you're prepping for any upcoming festivals, Urban Outfitters and Forever21 are basically devoted to festival fashion right now, so go stock up! Even if you aren't on your way to Coachella, they have really fun stuff for spring.

Besides the dress, I also picked up this pair of Via Spiga sandals. I've been meaning to get some new sandals as most of mine are currently falling apart (this is what happens when you wear the same 3 pairs on rotation all summer long) and this pair fits all the Lindsey shoe requirements: not too high of a heel, a neutral color, and versatility. But I am trying to add some fun to my shoe collection, and while they didn't have my size in this color, I may have to order these fuschia Sam Edelman sandals online. How fun are they!?

Anyways, a good day of shopping! I can't wait to show you how I style these pieces!

What I Wore | School Days

March 4, 2016

WEARING Madewell sweater | J. Crew chambray shirt | Urban Outfitters skirt | Sam Edelman heels | Chanel backpack
I figure, if I've only got two more months of school, might as well dress like a schoolgirl like I still can!

One of my favorite things to do is wear a sweater over a button-up shirt and peak the collar and cuffs through, making for a very chic after-hours professor look. Of course, I had to spice things up with a pleated mini skirt and my new favorite heels, leopard-print Sam Edelman pumps! Don't worry, I switched into more sensible calf hair loafers for class.

Add in a classic Chanel backpack and you've got a cute look that would make any private school girl jealous!

March Wish List

March 2, 2016

Fendi sunglasses | Comme des Garçons Girl shirt | Kate Spade iPhone case and bracelet
Jin Soon nail polish | Chloé purse and sandals | Stella McCartney jeans | Wildfox Couture shirt
Happy March! February went by in a blur, huh? And March is going to be more of the same, with midterms, spring break, and Easter weekend (basically, from now up until graduation (!!!) I'm going to be busy busy busy) all making sure that I get minimal sleep. But it's finally spring! And nothing means spring quite like pastels.

Basically, I'm feeling fun, candy colors and silly, whimsical pieces. Star-print jeans, ice cream-shaped iPhone cases, Marie Antoinette quote tees, and so on; life is short, too short to go through life dressing so seriously and without personality. As much as I would like to have a carefully curated wardrobe of nothing but neutral colors, I'm never going to be that girl, and so why not have fun with fashion and wear unicorns whenever possible? This isn't a rhetorical question; I want you to seriously tell me if there is a legitimate reason to not wear unicorns.

Anyways, that's what's on my mind for March! What are you guys dreaming of wearing? Is it also unicorn-themed?
