Shopping List | Novelty Bag

May 30, 2016

Via Style Vanity
A purse should always make a statement. Whether subtle or bold, the bag you carry says a lot about your style and who you are. If your personal style trends towards the louder side of things, well then I've got the perfect statement piece for you!

I've been seeing Instagram-bait novelty purses all over social media lately and think they are just sooo cute! Everyone from Moschino to Skinny Dip is getting in on the fun purse action, and you can tote your things around in everything from a pineapple to an ice cream truck. My personal favorites are the Skinny Dip flamingo purse and the classic Charlotte Olympia cat purse. These bags are such fun statement pieces and great conversation starters too! Plus, you'll rack up those social media likes!

To style, either let the bag do most of the talking or match the boldness with an equally fun outfit. The choice is up to you! Just go for what makes you feel amazing and chic, and don't be afraid of being the center of attention!

What I Wore | Cruisin'

May 25, 2016

Anyone who says you can't bike in a skirt is a liar

I'm home for an indefinite amount of time a little bit (hire me, LA-based fashion companies!) but home isn't a bad place to be, since home happens to be a beautiful beach town. I especially love the summertime here, when the weather is nice and I can go weeks without ever using my car. Instead, I'll bike around town on my trusty pink beach cruiser, wind in my hair, to pick up my morning iced latte or head to the bookstore or meet friends for dinner at a local restaurant! Ah, the beauty of living on a tiny island; nothing is ever too far away and all can be accessed on bike. Besides, when summer really gets going and the tourists start to invade, it's impossible to find parking anyways, so biking it is!

This weekend was absolutely lovely, and on Sunday (when I took these pics) I spent the whole day outside, reading my new book and hopefully getting a tan! It was one of those days when I wore a swimsuit all day long, which is the number one sign that your summer is going well.

Of course, as lovely as my hometown is, they still don't appreciate people walking into shops with nothing but a swimsuit and flip flops on, so I constructed a cute cover-up with an old button-down top from Anthropologie and a flowy skirt from Urban Outfitters. One of my favorite summer styling tricks is to tie a button-down top at the waist when paired with a high-waisted skirt for a flirty look. Besides, I was wearing an adorable itsy bitsy teeny weeny (blue) polka dot bikini from J. Crew and wanted to show it off, so I let a bit of it peek out.

Swipe a red lip on and you immediately look 129% more put-together. Plus, I love how the red lip combined with the tied shirt gave my look a retro 50s vibe!

Anyways, here's the whole outfit, and below, how to get the look for yourself!

J. Crew Has So Many Good Things Right Now

May 23, 2016

Wearing off-the-shoulder top, Billie demi-boot crop jeans, Chambray crystal earrings, and bucket hat

Get your prep on with J. Crew's new arrivals.

Things have been a little rocky for J. Crew recently. Your favorite preppy-cool brand has struggled in recent years with a crisis of identity. When Kylie Jenner and the Instagram crowd are leading fashion trends, where does a brightly-colored, gingham-obsessed heritage brand go? Well, after trying to shake up their image a bit, Jenna Lyons & Co. have truly embraced the preppiness of J. Crew, and it has paid off.

Now that J. Crew isn't trying to be something it's not, it's unveiling some truly fun clothing that will keep you looking stylish all summer long. From off-the-shoulder tops to trendy rainbow stripes, these pieces are for the girls who love color and aren't afraid of standing out from the crowd.

And because there are so many great new items, I've styled seven outfits for a number of summer occasions, so you can literally wear nothing but J. Crew all summer long!

Casual Weekend Brunch

I saw this iridescent clutch at The Grove a few weeks back and fell in love. Any accessory that could potentially blind people due to sheer shininess is an accessory I want to have. Because the clutch is such a standout piece, let it do the talking and pair it with a comfy T-shirt dress and trendy flatform espadrilles. Add a pair of sparkly earrings for some extra bling and you've got the perfect weekend brunch look.

9-to-5

Who says you can't incorporate the whole rainbow into your workday wardrobe? This technicolor-striped top is so fun for work and play (wear it unbuttoned for a sassy beach coverup), so let it do the talking and pair with muted neutrals. Draw out some of the fun color in your accessories, like your shoes and your lipstick color and pull your hair into a J. Crew catalogue-worthy messy bun for the perfect 9 to 5 look.

Drinks Downtown

I love the laid-back look that is vintage-style jeans paired with fun heels. The Roxie pumps come in a neat print with the perfect pop of color, so draw that out in a simple but brightly-colored silk camisole. Fringe earrings and a woven clutch add just the right amount of flirtatiousness for an evening of fruity cocktails in a trendy bar downtown.

Summer Wedding

J. Crew has a way of making unexpected color combinations work, so why not try lemon and raspberry? This gorgeous lace dress is perfect for a summer wedding, and this super fun necklace would bring the perfect amount of bling to the neckline. And I mean, come on, who can resist a good summer gingham?

Day on the Boat

Okay, summer sailing is like the ultimate in preppiness, so you might as well go full out with an outfit of primary colors. The T-shirt may be a little on the nose, but paired with cool sunglasses, a chic neck scarf, and of-the-moment espadrilles, this look is anything but basic. And hey, why not grab your matching yellow anorak in case it gets a bit windy on the high seas!

Adventuring in the City

Planning a day of checking out museums and wandering busy streets? You'll want a cute yet functional outfit to get you through the day. You should never say no to a good off-the-shoulder top, and tucked in to a button-up denim skirt, it's the cutest! (just be careful of where you sit, lol). You'll want a trusty pair of sneakers for all the walking you'll be doing, and a classic jean jacket for the evening. Bonus, this is the summer version of the Canadian tuxedo!

Backyard Barbeque

You could go casual for a low-key get together, but you're a J. Crew girl, so I say go Betty Draper with the most stunning green gingham dress that's just begging to be worn on a picnic. A cherry print clutch is cheeky but also thematically appropriate, and the wedges will keep you from teetering on the grass. Tie the sweater around your shoulders, country club style, but let the modern shades keep your outfit squarely in the 21st century.

See, there are so many cute new things! And good news: you can get 25% off (or 30% off if you're a J. Crew cardmember) until midnight tonight! Score!

What I Wore | Weekday at Home

May 20, 2016

Every day is an occasion to dress up!

Most people wouldn't bother dressing up on a day when they have nothing to do, but I'm not most people. In fact, sometimes it's the days when I have nothing planned that I find myself getting really creative with my outfits, because I'm just sitting around and playing dress up. This was one of those days, when I saw this old knit dress from Anthropologie that I hadn't worn in a while and decided to make a cool outfit around it.

I love this dress because it really is so versatile. I've worn it with a fun statement necklace and heels to internships. I could style it with a leather jacket and ankle boots for drinks at a cool bar downtown. But this time around I paired the dress with sneakers and my trusty denim jacket for a casual cool look. Also, I had to take my dog on a walk so the high-tops came in handy!

This outfit would be perfect for a casual weekend brunch or trip to a baseball game. And it's the perfect All-American look!

Shopping List | Sculptural Tops

May 18, 2016

Labériane Ponton in Ellery top via Shot by Gio

Because your clothes are works of art!

Looking for a way to spice up your look? You could search for a loud print or sequin-embellished piece, but sometimes you just want a good, basic piece with a pinch of wow factor to make you stand out from the crowd. So instead of looking for bold colors or prints, look for bold tailoring. That's right, sculptural tops with beautiful, unique draping are all the rage right now. They're a wonderful addition to any working girl's wardrobe, and everyone will be admiring your interesting top!

How you style it is up to you, but because these tops are usually full in shape, keep your pants or skirt on the slimmer side of things. Of course, if your structured top is cropped, feel free to pair with some culottes! Keep accessories simple and minimalistic though. You want the attention on your fabulous blouse.

Check out some ways street style girls have styled their sculptural tops!

What I Wore | Job Interview

May 17, 2016

Wearing L'Academie shirt, Madewell skirt and sunglasses, Sam Edelman shoes, and Kelsi Dagger bag
That's right, your girl Lindsey graduated on Friday and had a job interview on Monday!

It's been a busy week of driving back home to San Diego, then to LA and back home again on Monday, and also, you know, celebrating the end of my school years and stressing out about the fact that I have to change my LinkedIn status from "student" to "unemployed". Yikes. Also, help, I cannot stop saying "yikes" and I fear I have ceased using it in an ironic fashion.

Anyways, I had a job interview yesterday in Los Angeles for a super cool fashion company, you've definitely heard of it but I don't want to say too much in case i jinx it. But I think it went well! Ahhh, post-grad life is very scary.

Because this is a fashion company we're talking about, and I'm the Fashion Barbie and even if I weren't interviewing for a fashion company I would have dressed like this, I assembled a killer outfit that is equal parts trendy and classic. Lace-up blouses and midi skirts are awesome trends of the moment, but the colors scream timeless. Add one pair of sassy leopard print pumps for a pop of fun, throw your resumé into a simple black tote, and you've got yourself a perfect interview outfit.

Also, pro tip, I realized this morning that I don't own a steamer so I hung my clothes in the bathroom while I took a shower and the steam from the shower totally took all the wrinkles out of my skirt and top! And even after 5+ hours of sitting in my car, the wrinkles weren't too bad, thank god.

Blake Lively for Queen of Cannes

May 16, 2016

Blake Lively is putting everyone else's red carpet looks to shame.

Yeah, I'm a little bit biased because Blake Lively is one of my personal favorites, but seriously though, each one of Lively's outfits at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival has been incredible. From casual photocall outfits to the epitome of red carpet glamour, Serena van Der Woodsen is proving yet again that she is the Queen of Cannes.

I love how Blake is able to combine high fashion with her laid-back California girl style. She's also used the past week to prove that maternity style doesn't mean abandoning form fitting dresses or sex appeal. I mean, she's wearing Versace Atelier, for goodness' sake! That's not for the faint of heart! Anyways, Blake is killing the game and is teaching us all a lesson in how to dress to impress. Check out her best looks from Cannes so far:

May 13, 2016

I graduated from college today! Ahhh!

I'll post a recap of the festivities later and share some things about what I learned during my four years of higher education, but I've been up since 6am and need to nap before tonight's festivities :D

Fight on!
