City of stars, are you shining just for me?
When you live in Los Angeles, you're bound to stumble across an iconic movie location every once in awhile. This week we went to Pasadena for outfit backdrops, and one of the locations we shot at was the historic Colorado Street Bridge, which you may recognize from La La Land:Elie Saab Spring 2017 Couture via Vogue |
classic couture is back in a big way
When the real world seems to be going up in flames, fashion tends to delve deeper into fantasy. And couture is fantasy with a capital F, especially for us plebeians who watch the shows on our laptops and only dream of wearing such fantastic clothing (side note: I was actually invited to a few shows this season, but a last-minute trip to Paris wasn't really in the cards, so hopefully next season I'll be there in person!). Spring 2017 Couture has been bold, glamorous, and fantastical.

Plenty of romance and ball gowns galore
The couture shows have kicked off in Paris, and already I am drooling over the clothing confections that the world's finest fashion designers have presented. From a pre-Raphaelite fairy tale at Maria Grazia Chiuri's couture debut for Dior to over-the-top trains at Giambattista Valli, the magic and extravagance of couture is in full force.
Basically, an excuse to show off a new skirt
Sometimes you don't realize you want something until it goes on sale. Such was the case with this Madewell lace-insert skirt that I picked up at the Americana a few weeks ago. I had seen the skirt on Madewell's website for some time, and I have been in search of a new black mini skirt, but I didn't need it or anything. Until it was under $20 on sale!Outfit inspiration for days
It's no secret that Madewell is one of my favorite clothing brands. They're casual cool pieces are just simple enough to be everyday staples, but exciting enough to not be considered boring. At this point, I'm sure half of my wardrobe is Madewell, including all of my jeans and plenty of button-down tops, skirts, and dresses.
tea yes, you maybe
One of my New Year's resolutions was to explore different areas of Los Angeles. While at USC I became quite familiar with downtown, and now that I live downtown I consider myself something of an expert, but to the west, there is still so much that I have yet to discover. You don't know until you live in Los Angeles how difficult it can be to venture just 10 miles down the road (especially when the area in question isn't right off the freeway) and suddenly what should be a 20 minute journey turns into an all-day affair. Nevertheless, I've got a lot of free time at the moment, so I'll suck it up in traffic if it means exploring more of this beautiful city.Valentino Pre-Fall 2017 via @maisonvalentino |
So many good looks!
Pre-fall is perhaps the most curious of seasons. Technically, it refers to summer (right? pre-fall is the season preceding fall?) but many fashion designers use it as a time to introduce the motifs of their fall collections, and many pre-fall lookbooks are filled with coats, furs, and other cold-weather necessities. It is often less whimsical than resort, it's pre-season counterpart, focused on practical, consumer-friendly pieces that can transition from one season to another. The release of pre-fall collections also seems to drag on forever, as some designers presented their lookbooks weeks before Christmas, while others, like Christian Dior and Valentino, just held their pre-fall presentations this past week, mere weeks ahead of the spring couture shows.I finally made it to the pink wall!
Okay, I did it. I can quit my blog now and be content because after four and a half years of living in Los Angeles, I finally made it to the Paul Smith wall! Otherwise known as "That One Pink Wall on Instagram" the Paul Smith store on Melrose is a mecca for fashion bloggers and hip LA peeps in need of a colorful backdrop for their photos.

Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw
As much as I try to move away from my feminine style sometimes (in the Arts District, you're more likely to see people in vintage Levi's and baseball jackets than fun and flirty dresses) I can never resist a good tulle skirt. It is perhaps the most feminine thing imaginable, big and frilly and reminiscent of ballet recitals. It's also the skirt of choice amongst one of pop culture's most famed fashionistas, Carrie Bradshaw.Golden Globe winners Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone |
A golden night in La La Land
La La Land dazzled. The Night Manager surprised. Moonlight prevailed. The 74th Golden Globes were full of both expected wins and true surprises, making for an exciting night where anything could happen. As anticipated, La La Land won over the Hollywood Foreign Press Association the same way it did audiences, earning a record 7 wins at the Globes last night.
The Glossier Phase 2 Set |
Perfecting that no-makeup makeup look
Yeah, you read that right! I made my first video for The Fashion Barbie in order to show how Glossier's trendy makeup subtly enhances my face. I received the Phase 2 set for Christmas (thanks, Dad!) and absolutely love it, so I wanted to share my thoughts with all of you, and I thought, what better way to do that than with a video?Proenza Schouler Fall 2016 |
Define yourself
Whenever I watch period dramas and start aweing over the costumes, I find myself really wanting to own a corset. In my rococo-era fantasies, they're glamorous and give me the perfect shape to wear gorgeous robes à la française. In reality, corsets are the reason why you hear about women fainting so much in Jane Austen novels and likely caused all sorts of health problems. Yikes. My goals and resolutions for 2017 |
New Year, New Goals
I don't always think about New Year's Resolutions, but this is the first year that I'm completely out of school, working on the next step, and trying to figure out how to live my life, basically, so it felt like a good time to start thinking about goals for the year. Hopefully they will keep me motivated and encourage me to have fun and be productive in 2017!

Time to have some fun!
Happy 2017! I hope you had a lovely New Year's Eve and a minimal champagne hangover on New Year's Day! As this post goes live I'll be hopping on the metro to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl, where USC is playing Penn State. It's my first time going and I'm so excited to see the floats and my favorite college football team! Be sure to check out my Instagram for all the Rose Bowl fun.
