If it wasn't 'grammed, did it really happen?

The temperature is rising, and the best way to cool off is to hop in a chlorinated lagoon and soak up the sun. Of course, swimming is made exponentially more enjoyable with friends, and at this point you might as well go all out and throw an awesome pool party! But don't just throw any pool party; throw a stylish, Instagrammable event that will make everyone envious of your summertime soiree!

Here are seven steps to throwing an awesome pool party!

1. Sport a swimsuit from a trendy designer

The first step to an awesome pool party is an awesome wardrobe, obvi. Show off that bikini bod (which, btw, is any bod that dons a bikini) with a trendy swimsuit from an It Designer like Kiini or Private Party. Shop some more gram-worthy suits below:

2. Decorate with kitschy pool floats

Chances are you've seen a swan float or two on Instagram, and there's a reason! They're so cute! Now you can get basically anything in pool float form, from pineapples and pizza to flamingos and unicorns. Toss one into the pool and strike a pose!

3. Cover up in style

Don't forget a cute coverup! You never know when a pool party will turn into drinks at a local bar, so don't be caught off guard and make a statement with a gorgeous, effortless coverup dress. Shop some ideas:

4. Serve summery cocktails in festive drinkware

It's important to stay hydrated! Make your party stands out with signature cocktails (I have plenty of ideas on this Pinterest board) and serve them up in cute cups like these pineapple ones from Urban Outfitters!

5. Protect yourself from the sun

via @collagevintage
Sure, tans are moderately cool, but skin cancer is no joke, so skip the tanning oil and lather up with sunscreen (and don't forget to reapply)! Bonus: there's no shortage of cute hats and sunglasses out there, so you can keep your skin pretty and wrinkle-free in style!

6. Blast cool tunes

What's a party without some tunes? I'm currently all about Drake's new album and Kygo, with some classic disco thrown in for good measure.

7. Party time!

Now get out there, dive in, and enjoy! Oh, and don't forget to take plenty of pics or else the whole party was for naught, right? JK, it's the experience that matters! Have fun!

What are your steps for the ultimate summer pool party?

What to Wear on New Year's Eve

December 27, 2014

Stumped on what to wear this New Year's Eve? Look no further than the slip dress! With the 90s resurging thanks to everyone from Nasty Gal to Iggy Azalea (that Clueless-inspired video was epic) comes inspiration for a foolproof New Year's outfit formula: slip dress + heels + oversized jacket.

The best part? You probably already have a slip dress lurking in your closet. Just throw on a pair of sexy heels and some dainty jewelry (or a choker and vampy lipstick if you want to go full-on 90s). If the weather is not on your side, slip on some tights and throw an oversized sweater or coat over your shoulders—perhaps a leopard print coat for ultimate sass.

No matter how you style your slip dress, it's a sure-fire way to make a statement as the ball drops.

Perfect for Parties

Finding out what to wear to the various holiday shindigs this winter can be challenging for even the most sartorially-snobby. Luckily I've taken out a lot of the guesswork and have picked some stunners that are sure to delight even the sourest of Scrooges!

I went for a palette of black, red, and gold - the black and red scream classy, elegant lady, while the gold adds a touch of holiday sparkle (and let's be honest, who doesn't love a dash of gold?).

Fit and flare, lace, open backed, embellished - the gang's all there! Pick any one of these dresses and you are guaranteed to be the talk of the party. And these dresses are classic and therefore universally flattering, which means you have no excuses not to wear them (or dresses inspired by my personal picks, at least).

And with a fabulous dress you need fabulous accessories. A hint of leopard or a sparkly clutch brings a festive look up a notch, and bib necklaces are totally my thing right now. (P.S. can we talk about how amazing that Kotur tinsel clutch is!? It even has little ornaments embedded. Basically, the clutch is a portable Christmas tree!)

So where are you ladies off to this holiday season, and what will you be wearing? I'm sure it will be brilliant!
