It's weird to think that by 2015 we're supposed to have hoverboards. Hate to break it to ya, Marty McFly, but it doesn't look like we'll be getting wheel-less skateboards or hovering vehicles within the next year. Seriously, Apple should stop making watches and start investing more time and money on hoverboards–their stock would go crazy!
It also makes me sad that past predictions of future fashions have not yet come to fruition. I am still waiting for the day that we get totally stellar looks in the style of Zenon (Girl of the 21st Century, which by the way is this century so we should definitely be having space station rock concerts by now, am I right?) but it seems that fashion designers have finally answered my prayers. Especially at London Fashion Week, holographic materials were on-trend following the rock-n-roll/rave influences of the season.
For spring, don't be afraid to add some high shine to your look with a metallic moto vest or a sparkling mini skirt. Such iridescent pieces are best paired with classic pieces (silk blouses or knit sweaters, perhaps) but be weary; these looks are not for wallflowers. You'll be sure to be the center of attention in one of these dazzling get-ups, which is what makes holographic materials perfectly suited for a night out on the town or an awesome concert.

Young Hollywood convened at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday night to celebrate the year in music, film and television (or at least the music, film and television that is relevant to the teen set) for the Teen Choice Awards.
I love events like this where the main red carpet stars are young and sometimes newcomers to the celebrity scene. They don't all have stylists—or at least, they don't all have good stylists. They're still figuring out their personal style (most of them are still teenagers themselves, after all) and the resulting red carpet looks are fresh, fun, and risky. These girls are here to get noticed and that leads to interesting fashion statements, for better or for worse.
Pictured above are some of my favorite looks from the night. Crop tops proved that they are definitely here to stay. Nina Dobrev, Shay Mitchell, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Swift, and others all bared their midriffs with crop tops but no one looked trashy in doing so. Most of these girls have been walking the red carpet for a while now and thus have figured out what they look good in.
Selena Gomez continued her classy lady style streak with a sleek version of le smoking, which Yves Saint Laurent originally reimagined for women. The metallic pumps and the cool ponytail keep this look modern and youthful, and I feel that Selena has truly hit her style stride.
I loved Shailene Woodley's Peter Pilotto dress and especially enjoyed how she drew out the red in her dress with matching red heels. I only wish she had worn a sleeveless or short-sleeve version for the summer event. Nina Dobrev similarly matched her shoes to a color in her look, which made her outfit look instantly put together.
Nina Dobrev would have to be my pick for best dressed of the night.

Once upon a time safety pins were simply handy tools used to take in a too-loose dress or prevent an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction at the school dance. Then they became a staple of the punk fashion movement, adorning everything from leather jackets to silk dresses. But we live in a brave new world where the punk accessory and handy styling tool has evolved into a full-fledged fashion statement.
Versus, the Versace diffusion line, has a slew of safety pin-adorned shirts, skirts, and dresses if you aren't looking to DIY your punk pieces.
But beyond that, safety pins have become an increasingly popular motif in the jewelry world. It makes sense to take an item that is already made of metal and dip it in gold, add some diamonds and some chains, and turn it into a statement piece.
Earrings, bracelets, and necklaces have all gotten the safety pin treatment. Both high-end and affordable jewelry brands are fans of the trend, so there's a safety pin piece for every budget. And you don't need a mohawk or studded leather jacket to rock the trend; these jewelry pieces are sassy enough to give a bit of edge to your ensemble but are not overwhelming, so even the preppiest of preps can wear the trend.

Spring collections are slowly trickling into retail stores, and along with that comes the unveiling of the Spring 2014 Ad Campaigns.
It's always a treat to see how ad campaigns contribute to the tone of a collection, and they often make the clothes come alive. And from a photographer scandal to new talents landing big campaigns, this round of campaigns was indeed quite lively.
Below are some of my favorites:

Let's start things off with one of the more interesting ad campaigns of the season. Miley Cyrus' status as It Girl continues into 2014 as the new face of Marc Jacobs. The images are dark and moody, reflecting the Victorian-inspired collection well.
The campaign by David Sims, however, is rather incongruous with past MJ campaigns which are usually photographed by Juergen Teller, who - according to the episode of E! News I was watching yesterday - refused to work with Miley. Apparently not everyone does "Adore You", Miley.
The result - a much moodier, darker campaign than usual. I like it and think it works, but Juergen Teller's refusal to work with Miley makes for an interesting story!

Also helmed by Marc Jacobs (for the last time), the Louis Vuitton campaign for Spring 2014 celebrates the seventeen-year-reign of Jacobs before Nicolas Ghesquiere takes the reigns. The campaign features the women who inspired Marc Jacobs for his Louis Vuitton collections, including Sofia Coppola, Gisele Bundchen, Catherine Deneuve, and Fan Bingbing.
The photographs are beautiful, a fitting last campaign for the man who transformed the French leather house into a fashion powerhouse.
We'll miss Marc at Louis Vuitton, but I for one am so excited to see Nicolas Ghesquiere back in the game and know he will do marvelous things.

The fiery-haired Karen Elson stuns in a sexy Jason Wu gown for the designer's latest ad campaign, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vindoodh Matadin. Shot at NYC eaterie Indochine, Elson makes her Hollywood-glam dress look as appetizing as the food on the table.
I love Elson's dynamic pose, the punchy wallpaper, and the fact that Wu himself joins the supermodel for a fashionable bite to eat in another photo for the campaign. Perfection.

Miuccia Prada continues her tradition of featuring up-and-coming Hollywood starlets with Spring 2014, which showcases 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong'o, along with Bella Heathcote, Elle Fanning, and Elizabeth Olsen.
The pastel-heavy collection gets some edge with the way these girls wear their Miu Miu clothes with confidence. This campaign is a total win for me.

Alexa Chung has a tendency to turn everything she touches to glistening gold, and her latest ad for Longchamp is no exception. Chung is cool and adventurous in her light blue convertible and clutching to her vibrant yellow Longchamp bag.
I love the feel of this image, love the way it makes you want to hop in the passenger seat and join Alexa Chung on an exciting road trip.

And of course, one my favorite campaigns of Spring 2014 is one of the most straightforward. Lady Gaga poses in Versace as a Donnatella doppelganger and looks beautiful doing so. Gaga's pose is seductive and sexy, just like a Versace dress. Simple, yes, but powerful.

Versace Fall 2013 Couture makes the midriff glam and the loose-knit sweater a work of art
Once upon a time, sweaters were created to keep people warm during cold winter months. Essentially some person way back when eyed the fluffy, wonderfully-insulated sheep and enviously tried to make him or herself just as warm and cozy as the sheep with its warm wool - and thus, the sweater was born. Or something like that.
But society has evolved a lot since the first days of wool-based clothing and clothing is no longer about just stayin' alive (currently listening to this and had to put it in there, it seemed just too fitting) but about self-expression and fashion! and all that. We have evolved and live luxurious lives compared to the lives of our forefathers, and now we wear sweaters that look cool, not ones that keep us warm.

You may not know this, but cropped tops are kind of a thing right now. Especially during the summer, nothing seems to be more popular right now than baring your midriff and flaunting your fabulous toned abs.
But summer is a fleeting season, destined to end quicker than we want it to, and soon fall will spread over the lands and cause the leaves to change colors and the temperature to drop and the crop-top hipster girls will have to fold away their belly-baring T-shirts and simply await the return of spring, right? WRONG!
For fall, the cropped top takes the form of the more seasonally-appropriate cropped sweater, so don't stop the ab-work yet. And the looser-knit the short sweater is, the better. Like, it should look like a kindergartener made it. Or a Mulleavy sister. And if it's hand-dyed and spun from golden fleece and costs over three-thousand dollars you win at life. Just don't yet your cat near it.

Well, my friend, luckily I live in Southern California where it never gets too unbearable. But I say suck it up. We have evolved to wear clothes out of style and how cool they look, not how comfortable or insulated we are, right? That's what heating systems are for. And it's not like you wear this look when its below freezing temperature and snowing. But if you are yearning for a crop top to sport during winter, this is your chance.

Naomi Campbell and Versace go together like peanut butter and jelly, or a Little Black Dress and a red pout, to make a more fashionable analogy. Versace was made for Naomi, and Naomi was made to rock Versace. A match-made in fashion heaven.
So to have Naomi both open and close the Fall 2013 Atelier Versace show seemed perfectly natural. In fact, it made me wonder why Naomi doesn't open and close every Versace show. Regardless of your opinions about Naomi as a person (like every awesome supermodel, Naomi has had her fair share of scandal) you must admit that no one rocks Versace quite like her.
In precarious, painstakingly-detailed dresses - all half-undone from the hooks and eyes that so delicately held them together to reveal sultry lingerie - Naomi & Company strutted down the catwalk in true vampy fashion. It was only fitting, seeing as how Donatella was inspired by black and white photography of the 1930s.
As with most Versace collections, it was also about skin - how much to show, and how one's perception of an individual can totally change based on how done (or undone) her hook-and-eye-fastened dress becomes.
Think about it. Look 13 (above, at right) could either be fastened up to the shoulder to become a relatively tame (by Versace standards) mini dress, complete with long sleeves and turtle neck. Basically a nun. Or those hooks and eyes could unclasp and the wearer would be left there in nothing but fabulously provocative lace lingerie (and towering high heels, of course).
It could go either way.
On a more obvious level, the incredible detail of these dresses and undergarments absolutely exude what it means to create a couture collection. Donatella said it best herself, in reference to her 30s inspiration:
"It was a moment about precision, about perfection, and lots of work."
Lots of hard work, indeed. But it looks like its paying off.

So naturally, designers revel in letting their ladies show off a little skin.
Of course, the old mini-skirt and spaghetti strap have tired out, and in there place a new crop (pun unintended) of styles that allow women to show off their figures, get some sun, and look absolutely fresh.

Not for the faint of heart, the mesh dress is perfect for the confident woman looking to show off some curves. To keep this look understated rather than overt, opt for a longer length and wear an appropriate amount of coverage underneath (I like the bandeau & boyshorts combo that Derek Lam is showing) if you aren't up for the bare-it-all nature of the Jason Wu lace dress.

The crop top has been present since the spring collections, but don't expect it to go away anytime soon. The great thing about the crop top is it's pretty versatile- you can show an inch of skin like Phillip Lim, or bare your crunch-perfected abs a la Theysken's Theory style. When wearing a shrunken top, remember to balance out proportions by pairing your crop with heavier, looser pieces for a more streamlined look.

If the crop top is baring it all, the cut-out is it's girl-next-door cousin. With a cut-out piece, you still get to show off some skin and look fabulous, but without the serious ab preparation a crop top may require :)

When The Hunger Games premiered in March, everyone was eagerly anticipating Jennifer Lawrence's rise to fashion fame- and rise she did. The star has stunned in Prabal Gurung, Marchesa, and Nina Ricci. But while the Lawrence certainly has lived up to her character's "girl on fire" reputation, the true star of the Hunger Games promotional tour turned out to be none other than Elizabeth Banks. Though not the star of the film by any means, Banks stole the spotlight from many of her younger counterparts both on and off screen. In the movie Banks portrays Effie Trinket, the District Twelve tribute escort and my personal favorite. It only seems fitting that Banks would mirror Trinket's whimsical, daring fashions on the red carpet while promoting the film.
But The Hunger Games has come and gone and still I'm noticing Banks everywhere. Always, she is dressed impeccably, a rare feat for actresses these days. Somehow Banks knows how to make a statement without going over the top. She knows what styles work for her and she always plays up her assets. Banks also knows how to pose with poise, always looking like she's having a blast, which is refreshing to see when so many starlets - *cough* Kristen Stewart *cough* - act like the red carpet is such a burden.
So here's to Banks, who never fails to impress, whether it be in a bright mini, metallic frock, or feathered gown. A lesson to us all in impeccable styling and taste.

See a trend in the images above? The hottest posing trend since Tyra added "Smize" (Smize? Smeyes?) to the dictionary, The Angelina has inspired a string of immitations. It was vaguely amusing when Angelina first did it because everything she does is so overly-dramatic, but ever since Anja Rubik tried her hand at the pose and exposed the most terrifying hip bone ever seen, I've been begging the fashion gods for this terrible trend to STOP!
At Cannes, everyone from stylish Milla Jovovich to America's Scowler Kristen Stewart to even British Niki Minaj Jessie J (Of the bunch, Jessie J certainly looks the best and much more glamorous than usual). Look, ladies, I don't mind if you want to wear a slit and show off how well you shaved your legs this morning, but when I have hard proof that you aren't wearing any underwear beneath your gown (I'm looking at you, Rubik!) it's time to stop poppin' the leg and retire the now-infamous Angelina. It had a good run, but please, for the love of all that is fashionable, STOP POSING.
