These Companies are Making Your Life Easier

June 25, 2015

Outdoor Voices | Box Fox Instagram
People are really busy these days. Between working, going to school, trying to have a social life, having an on-point Instagram, and catching up on the latest season of True Detective, we really don't have a lot of idle time. We're lucky if we get the chance to sneak out to a movie (and I mean one in theatres, not just sidling up to your laptop and opening up Netflix) or enjoy a leisurely Saturday without having errands to run.

Luckily, many brands have recognized the fact that people are incredibly busy these days and they know that you want quality clothes and beauty products without having to wade through thousands of options (which, if you've ever used Shopstyle, you know that there are literally thousands of versions of any one particular clothing item; it can be quite overwhelming). I want my one-stop shopping and be able to walk away with everything I need with just a click of a button.

Below are some of my favorite curated kits that make shopping so much easier.

Outdoor Voices

The OV x Man Repeller kit
With Lululemon being co-opted by suburban moms, where does the fashion crowd turn to for chic workout attire? Look no further than Outdoor Voices, the coolest fitness brand that actually makes me want to work out. I first heard about OV through their collaboration with one of my favorite fashion blogs, Man Repeller, and I love the cool designs available at Outdoor Voices. But the best part? They also have clothing kits so that you can have a whole look sent to you, ready to go. I'm a big fan of the charcoal colorway, but the Man Repeller kit is also a must-have.

Box Fox

The Festival box from Box Fox
When you live a busy life, chances are you've got plenty of social events on your calendar. Birthdays, weddings, office gatherings, you name it. And while you would love to get every single person in your life a meaningful, thought-out gift, sometimes you just don't have the time. That's where Box Fox comes in. They have carefully-curated gift boxes for all sorts of occasions, featuring trinkets and goodies from brands like Kate Spade, Voluspa, and Rifle Paper Co.

You can send a sweet gift to your boss during the holidays, celebrate a friend's new baby, or even get a gift for yourself (I love the festival and travel kits, personally), and Box Fox has just introduced the ability to totally customize your order for a truly unique gift. Nice!

Net-a-Porter

The Summer Kit from Net-a-Porter Beauty
Summer is a time for weekend getaways and jetset adventures, and jetset adventures call for fresh-faced beauty looks. High-end online retailer Net-a-Porter has curated a delightful beauty kit full of best-sellers so that all your summer beauty needs are met. The best part? Pretty much everything is small enough to go on your carry-on and not be tossed out by TSA, so you are ready to go anywhere.

Would you buy a curated kit?

These Hats Are Out of This World

February 6, 2014

All pieces by Piers Atkinson, available here

Net-a-porter is home to some of the world's most premier designers, but there's often a sophisticated, classic edge to the clothes that they feature. There are wacky, trendy, and overall just ridiculous pieces too, but they tend to stay relatively safe.

But among the New Arrivals section is a series of elaborate & whimsical headgear. British Milliner Piers Morgan is the brainchild behind these deliciously wacky hats and headbands. He's been around for a while, with celebs like Anna Dello Russo and Lady Gaga wearing his designs, but I've only recently stumbled upon this headwear designer and thought I would share his creations with you!

As insane as these items are, they are relatively tame compared to some of the other pieces available for sale on his official website

Be warned, these are high-fashion headbands and will cost you (most were over $500) but they are truly unique if you're looking for a good statement piece!

Perfect for Parties

December 4, 2013

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: Alice by Temperley Dress | Marni Necklace | J. Crew Dress | Christian Louboutin Clutch | Alexander McQueen Dress | Tamara Mellon Sandals | Diane Von Furstenberg Dress | Valentino Pumps | Miu Miu Dress | Kotur Clutch | Alice + Olivia Dress | Tom Binns Necklace

Finding out what to wear to the various holiday shindigs this winter can be challenging for even the most sartorially-snobby. Luckily I've taken out a lot of the guesswork and have picked some stunners that are sure to delight even the sourest of Scrooges!

I went for a palette of black, red, and gold - the black and red scream classy, elegant lady, while the gold adds a touch of holiday sparkle (and let's be honest, who doesn't love a dash of gold?).

Fit and flare, lace, open backed, embellished - the gang's all there! Pick any one of these dresses and you are guaranteed to be the talk of the party. And these dresses are classic and therefore universally flattering, which means you have no excuses not to wear them (or dresses inspired by my personal picks, at least).

And with a fabulous dress you need fabulous accessories. A hint of leopard or a sparkly clutch brings a festive look up a notch, and bib necklaces are totally my thing right now. (P.S. can we talk about how amazing that Kotur tinsel clutch is!? It even has little ornaments embedded. Basically, the clutch is a portable Christmas tree!)

So where are you ladies off to this holiday season, and what will you be wearing? I'm sure it will be brilliant!

Sparkle from Head to Toe!

November 5, 2013

Now is definitely the perfect time to purchase a dazzling pair of sequin shoes!

Silver and gold go with just about anything, and glitter adds a wonderful festive touch to every occasion - holiday or otherwise. Just think Dorothy without the country girl braids.

And when the party season is over, you can always take a little sparkle into everyday wear! Pair with jeans and a smart blouse for a little party in your look, every day!

Have a Haute Halloween!

October 29, 2013

Whoever said Christmas was the only holiday designers could sell seasonal merchandise for? This year, plenty of designers are delivering up delightful treats for Halloween! Splurge on these Halloween-themed pieces and perfect costume accessories if you dare!

Great New Spring Clothes!

February 4, 2013

The weather is finally warming up (at least it is here in Los Angeles) and it's time to pull out the primary colors, bold prints, and floral motifs!

Ugly is the new Festive

November 21, 2012

When browsing the Urban Outfitters in Pasadena last weekend (after a devastating football loss to those silly UCLA bruins, but that's another story...) I found a most humorous site: the store, under its Urban Renewal vintage restoration line, was selling legitimately Ugly Christmas Sweaters. They were worn over sequin skull T-shirts, of course.

Ugly Christmas Sweaters seem to be the preferred holiday garb of the ironic young hipster set. The more bells and glued-on ornaments, the better! But for those of you who cannot quite pull off ironically wearing your grandmother's knitted holiday sweaters, designers have come up with the perfect solution: the Ugly (but Stylish) Christmas Sweater!!!

Baroque Era

August 15, 2012

Opulence is all the rage these days, and it is time to get out the embellished sweaters, decorated headbands, and heavy, rich prints. Dolce & Gabbana was the leader of the trend, with Oscar de la Renta and Balmain following suit. Will you bring on the glitz this season with your most ornate outfits?

And if you want to get the look:

burgundy & leather

July 18, 2012

Looking for an investment piece this fall? Take a fall staple (leather) and dye it a deep wine red. Dresses, jackets, bags -anything is fair game for this dynamic duo!

let me be your national anthem

June 20, 2012

One of my favorite holidays, the 4th of July, is just around the corner. I love finding the perfect red white and blue ensemble to rock while biking to the parade, hopping from barbeque to barbeque, and watching fireworks. Here are some fabulous patriotic picks for those of you still looking for perfect Americana pieces.

essentials only

June 15, 2012

Bags seem to be going in two directions these days, depending on the user. For the practical woman, there seems to be no end of hyper-functional totes, complete with phone compartments, fabulous hardware, and perfect extras like compact mirrors and key chains. These bags are perfect for airplane rides and lugging work materials. But as you all have probably experienced, a full tote is a bit of a burden on the shoulders and arms, and while they are practical in many occasions, schlepping your massive tote around town all day and night isn't the best solution. And so, in order to solve our problem, designers have hatched up the mini shoulder bag.

Mulberry $435 at net-a-porter.com
The mini shoulder bag: what happens when a cross-body satchel takes the shrinking potion Alice drinks in Alice in Wonderland. Unlike the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink-carrying tote bags, use of the mini shoulder bag requires extreme editing expertise. Only the essentials are allowed. At best, you can squeeze in an iPhone, a few credit cards, and a vile of lip gloss. Maybe you can get some keys in there. But not a whole lot.

While the mini shoulder bag doesn't leave a lot of room for extras, the concept is brilliant. When you hit the town or even just walk around a bit, you don't want to be burdened by a whole bunch of crap jammed into your big bag. While walking my dog this week up to a coffee cart for a tasty drink, I found myself realizing the beauty of the mini shoulder bag, which I have begun using whenever I walk my dog, go on a hike, see a concert, etc. In these situations, you really just need your phone, some money, an ID, etc. The mini shoulder bag makes it so convenient because it is so light on your shoulders -trust me, you will never want to go back to a normal purse- and you don't have to do the painstaking digging around a cluttered bag to find car keys, phone, whatever.

I wouldn't toss out the old Celine Shopper just yet, because in many cases the mini shoulder bag just isn't big enough. But when you need the essentials only, there's nothing better than the mini shoulder bag.

Deena & Ozzy $29 at urbanoutfitters.com
Kate Spade $178 at katespade.com

Will you be using a mini shoulder bag any time soon?
