Exploring downtown in style
Over the last five years that I've been in Los Angeles, downtown has experienced exponential growth. There are new bars and restaurants opening up left and right, more apartment buildings, and new areas (like my current neighborhood, the Arts District) are expanding as we speak. I love that I've gotten to know DTLA so well over the past few years, thanks to its proximity to USC, and I love that even now I'm still exploring new places to go and new sights to see.
This weekend my friend Elise was in town, so we grabbed brunch at Perch. I had been there for drinks before, but never for brunch, so it was amazing to sit outside and see that gorgeous view of DTLA in the daytime.
The drinks were fab, but I will admit that the food was a bit mediocre. Not bad, just not as good as the prices suggest. I guess you go for the spectacular view, though!
Afterwards Elise and I wandered around downtown for a little bit, marvelling at all the new spots and how many people were out and about on a Saturday morning. It really is incredible to see the revitalization of downtown.
We stumbled upon the gorgeous art deco marquee for the Orpheum theatre and took some pictures there. I love that many of the old theatres have been kept intact, especially their cool marquees, and the interiors restored. Just down the block, the Rialto (no, not the one from La La Land; that one is in Pasadena) has been transformed into an Urban Outfitters, and I've been to several other theatres that have been converted to clubs, with the original design elements still there.
